사랑의 치유자 예수님(Jesus our Great Physician of Love)

자신이 가난하거나, 사랑받지 못하거나, 사회적으로 소외되었다면 다른 사람들로부터 어떤 대우를 받고 싶으신가요? 다른 사람들과 마찬가지로 여러분도 존엄하고 존중 받는 대우를 받기를 원할 것입니다. 여러분은 자신이 어떤 사람인지, 무엇을 가지고 있지 않기 때문이 아니라 여러분 자체로 사랑받고 인정받기를 원할 것입니다. 예수 그리스도는 무조건적인 사랑으로 모든 사람을 사랑하십니다. 그것은 외모나 성과, 지위에 근거한 사랑이 아니라 모든 사람이 인식하든 인식하지 못하든 공유하는 필요에 근거한 사랑입니다. 병원 응급실에서 흔히 볼 수 있는 장면을 예로 들어 설명해 보겠습니다. 병원 응급실의 늦은 근무 시간은 평소와 마찬가지로 분주했습니다. 각계각층의 사람들이 응급실의 서비스를 절실히 필요로 하고 있었습니다. 먼저 프랭크가 있었습니다. 프랭크는 또 다른 약물 과다 복용으로 실려 왔습니다. 불쌍한 모습의 프랭크는 스스로 목숨을 끊으려다 실패한 적이 있었습니다. 다음은 남학생들에게 인기를 얻기 위해 자신의 몸을 이용하는 함정에 빠진 린다였습니다. 놀랍게도 그녀의 남자 친구 중 한 명은 평생 그녀와 함께할 성병에 걸렸습니다. 린다는 다시 한 번 약간의 안도감을 얻기 위해 그곳을 찾았습니다. 반면에 존은 모범적인 아버지이자 남편으로 착하고 성실한 사람이었습니다.하지만 끔찍한 교통사고로 인해 존의 삶이 위태로워졌습니다. 그날 밤 당직 의사는 어떤 응급 상황에도 대처할 준비가 되어 있었습니다. 그는 방을 옮겨 다니며 프랭크, 린다, 존 등 환자 한 명 한 명에게 동일한 수준의 진료를 제공했습니다. 그는 환자를 치료하기 전에 환자의 은행 계좌를 보지 않았습니다. 환자의 피부색도 보지 않았습니다. 그들이 응급실에 온 이유에 대해 판단하지 않았습니다. 그는 그들을 돌보고 위로하고 회복을 돕기 위해 그곳에 있었습니다. 응급실 문은 응급상황에 처한 누구에게나 열려 있었습니다. 응급실의 유일한 존재 이유는 치료가 필요한 사람들이 치료를 받을 수 있는 장소를 제공하기 위해서 입니다. 마찬가지로 하나님은 죄로 병들었을 뿐만 아니라 죄로 죽어 있는 우리를 구원하고 영생을 줄 수 있는 의사를 필요로 하는 남자, 여자, 소년, 소녀 등 우리 모두를 위해 계십니다. 그 위대한 의사는 바로 주 예수 그리스도 자신입니다. 그러나 예수 그리스도는 "선한" 사람을 위해 죽지 않으셨습니다. 그분은 스스로 도울 수 없는 사람들을 위해 죽으셨습니다. 그분은 아무도 위하여 죽으려 하지 않는 사람들을 위해 죽으셨습니다. 그리스도는 그분의 차별과 다함 없는 사랑으로 우리의 죄를 용서하시고 우리의 영혼을 치유하시고 우리의 삶에 활력을 불어넣으십니다. 좋은 소식은 이 놀라운 사랑을 기도로 체험할 수 있다는 것입니다.  

If you were poor, unlovely, or socially marginalized, how would you want to be treated by others? Like everyone else, you would want to be treated with dignity and respect. You would want to be loved and accepted because of who you are as a person, not because of what you are not or what you do not have. Jesus Christ loves everyone with an unconditional love. It is not a love based upon looks or performance or status but upon need—a need that all individuals share … whether they recognize it or not. Let me describe a probable common scene of the hospital’s emergency room. The late shift at the hospital’s emergency room was busy as usual. People from all walks of life were in desperate need of its services. First there was Frank. Frank was brought in because of another drug overdose. A pathetic figure, Frank had tried unsuccessfully to take his own life. Next was Linda, who fell into the trap of using her body to gain popularity with the boys. Not surprisingly, one of her boyfriends had passed on a sexually transmitted disease that would be with her for life. Linda was there to get some relief, again. John, on the other hand, was a model father and husband—a good and faithful man. John’s life was now hanging in the balance due to a terrible car accident. Next was Logan, who was brutally beaten by her drunken husband. She was shivering with terror. She had no place to flee. The hospital’s emergency room was filled with all kinds of patients who needed care based on their needs. The doctor on call that night was equipped to handle any medical emergency. He moved from room to room, giving the same quality of care to each of his patients: to Frank, to Linda, and to John. He did not look at the bank accounts of his patients before he treated them. He did not notice the color of their skin. He did not judge them for the reason they had come to the emergency room. He was there to care for them, to comfort them, to help them recover. The doors to the emergency room were opened to anyone who had an emergency. The sole reason for the emergency room is to provide a place where people who need care can receive it. In the same way, God is there for all of us—men, women, boys, and girls—who are not only sick with sin but also dead in sin, in need of a doctor who can save us and give us eternal life. That Great Physician is the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. But Jesus Christ did not die for the “good” man. He died for those who could not help themselves. He died for those whom no one else could or would die for. Christ forgives our sins, heals our souls, and revitalizes our lives with his undiscriminating and unconditional love. The good news is that we can experience this amazing love in prayer.
