교회의 하나됨(The unity of the church)

그리스도의 몸 된 교회는 하나입니다. 그리스도가 나뉠 수 없듯이 구원 받는 사람들의 집합체인 교회는 나뉠 수 없습니다. 하지만 교회 역사는 분열의 역사라고 해도 과언이 아닐 것입니다. 진리와 비진리가 함께 할 수 없듯 참된 교회와 거짓 교회가 나뉘는 것은 마땅한 것입니다. 빛과 어둠이 함께 할 수 없듯이 참된 교회는 이단 교회로부터 분리해야 합니다. 그러나 같은 교회 안에서 영향력 있는 인물들을 중심으로 나뉘는 것은 교회의 연합을 깨는 죄입니다. 개인의 사소한 문제로 교회를 나뉘는 것도 죄입니다. 교회는 나이, 성별, 인종, 문화, 전통, 성격, 직업, 지위가 다른 사람들이 모여 그리스도의 몸을 이루고 있습니다. 이러한 다름을 틀림을 규정하는 것은 옳지 않습니다. 다른 사람들에게 대한 편견을 가지고 파당을 만드는 것은 교회의 하나됨을 깨는 행위입니다. 교회는 동일하신 하나님을 섬깁니다. 교회의 주인은 예수 그리스도입니다. 교회는 동일하신 성령을 통하여 예배하고 기도합니다. 교회는 동일한 목적을 가지고 동일한 방향을 가는 믿음 공동체입니다. 그런데 다른 사람들과 스스로를 차별화하여 높이려는 것은 교만일 뿐이다. 이러한 교만이 교회의 연합을 위협하는 가장 큰 적입니다. 우리는 교회 연합을 위하여 겸손해야 합니다. 다른 교우들을 나보다 낫게 여기는 겸손한 태도를 지녀야 합니다. 우리는 동일한 그리스도에 몸에 속한 지체들입니다. 머리 이신 그리스도께서 명령하시는 것을 따라야 합니다. 그 명령을 불순종하며 각자의 뜻을 고집하면 교회는 세상 가운데서 웃음거리로 전락할 것입니다. 우리 각자가 함께 협력 할 때 하나님의 뜻을 이룰 수 있습니다. 아프리카 부족의 한 어린 아이가 큰 정글 풀숲으로 사라져 부족원들이 하루 종일 찾았지만 찾지 못한 안타까운 이야기입니다. 다음 날 부족원들은 모두 손을 잡고 함께 풀숲을 걸었습니다. 마침내 아이를 찾을 수 있었지만 추운 밤이었기 때문에 아이는 살아 돌아오지 못했습니다. 어머니는 괴로워하며 눈물을 흘리며 "우리가 더 빨리 손을 잡았더라면..."이라고 울부짖었습니다. 우리 모두가 공동의 목표를 공유하는 것만으로는 충분하지 않습니다. 우리 모두는 주저 없이 그 목표를 달성하기 위해 함께 협력해야 합니다. 교회는 오케스트라와 같습니다. 어떤 사람이 아무리 뛰어난 연주자라도 다른 연주자들과 음을 맞추어 연주해야 합니다. 다른 사람들과 어우러져 악보에 맞추어 연주할 때 아름다운 명곡을 연주할 수 있습니다. 마찬가지로 교회를 이루는 우리 각자가 자기에게 맡겨진 임무를 수행할 뿐만 아니라 공동의 목적을 이루기 위하여 협력할 때 교회가 그리스도 안에서 하나됨의 역량을 발휘하는 것입니다. 

The church, the body of Christ, is one. Just as Christ is indivisible, so the church, the assembly of the saved, is indivisible. Yet church history is a history of division. Just as truth and untruth cannot be together, it is necessary for true churches to separate from false churches. Just as light and darkness cannot be together, so true churches must separate from heretical churches. However, it is a sin to break the unity of the church when the division centers around influential figures within the same church. It is also a sin to divide the church over the petty issues of individuals. The church is made up of people of different ages, genders, races, cultures, traditions, personalities, professions, and statuses. It's not right to regard these differences as wrong. Creating cliques based on prejudice against others breaks the unity of the church. The church serves the same God. The head of the church is Jesus Christ. The church worships and prays through the same Holy Spirit. The church is a community of faith with the same purpose and the same direction. It is only pride that seeks to exalt oneself by setting oneself apart from others. This pride is the greatest enemy that threatens the unity of the church. We must be humble for the sake of church unity. We must have a humble attitude that sees other church members as better than ourselves. We are members of the same body of Christ. We must do what Christ, the head, commands. If we disobey that command and insist on our own will, the church will become a laughingstock in the world. When each of us works together, we can accomplish God's will. The story is told of a time when a little child in an African tribe wandered off into the tall jungle grass and could not be found, although the tribe searched all day. The next day the tribal members all held hands and walked through the grass together. This enabled them to find the child, but due to the cold night he had not survived. In her anguish and through tears, the mother cried, “If only we would have held hands sooner.” It is not enough that we all share a common goal. We must all work together to accomplish it without hesitation. The church is like an orchestra: no matter how good a player you are, you need to play in tune with the others. When you play in tune with others, you can create a beautiful piece of music. In the same way, when each of us in the church not only performs our individual tasks, but also works together to fulfill a common purpose, the church as one in Christ is at its best.
