12살(Twelve Years Old)

오늘은 설날입니다. 우리 은혜 교회는 12살이 되었습니다. 그리고 저는 54살이 되었습니다. 축하하고 감사할 일들이 겹쳤습니다. 우리 은혜 교회는 2011년 1월 23일 어린이 5명, 어른 8명이 첫 예배를 드렸습니다. 개척 때에 우리 교회가 3년을 넘기지 못하고 문을 닫을 것이라고 예측하는 사람들이 있었습니다. 그런데 현재까지 예배를 드리며 말씀을 가르치고 복음을 전하고 있습니다. 지난 12년을 돌아보면 하나님께 감사한 일과 고마운 분들이 생각날 뿐입니다. 하나님은 수 많은 어려움을 통하여서도 신실하심을 보여주셨습니다. 교회는 꾸준히 성장하였습니다. 주일 오후 2시 예배임에도 70명 이상이 예배 드렸습니다. 그후 많은 분들이 이사하였고 학생들은 졸업하고 떠나갔습니다. 여러 교우들이 교회를 떠나가기도 하였습니다. 고통, 성찰, 간구의 시간이었습니다. 하나님은 크신 은혜를 베푸셔서 가장 어려울 때 현재의 교회당을 구입하게 해 주셨습니다. 우리 온 교우들은 3개월 동안 교회를 수리하는 공사에 참여하였습니다. 그후 5년이 흘렀습니다. 이 기간 중에 코로나 팬데믹이 떠졌습니다. 학생들은 한국으로 돌아갔습니다. 팬데믹 기간 중에도 매 주일 교회에서 10명정도가 예배를 드렸습니다. 무엇보다도 계속해서 예배를 인도하며 말씀을 전할 수 있는 것에 감사합니다. 교회가 12살이 된 것은 모두 하나님의 은혜입니다. 우리 교우들의 기도, 헌신, 섬김, 사랑이 있었기에 12주년 기념일을 지킬 수 있게 된 것입니다. 은혜 교회를 지나간 모든 분들, 떠나간 모든 분들, 현재 남이 있는 모든 분들께 진심으로 감사를 드립니다. 개척 때부터 우리는 “주님의 능하신 사랑으로 하나님과 이웃 사랑”을 실천하는 교회를 만들려고 했습니다. 우리는 여전히 이 목적을 이루고자 합니다. 교회 안팎에서 우리의 하는 모든 일들이 이 목적을 이루길 기도합니다. 한 영혼이라도 전도하여 제자 삼고 하나님께 영광을 돌리고자 합니다. 12주년 기념일에 우리는 다시금 이 목적을 상기하며 주님의 능하신 은혜를 구합니다: “주님, 우리와 같이 연약한 자들을 통하여도 주님의 교회를 세우소서. 잃어버린 영혼들을 주님께로 인도할 수 있도록 도와 주소서. 사랑을 실천할 수 있는 힘과 용기를 허락해 주세요. 우리 은혜 교회가 주님께 영광 위하여 존재하게 해 주세요.”  

Today is the Lunar New Year. Our Grace Church turns 12. I turn 54. We are grateful for all this. On Jan. 23, we, 8 adults and 5 children, had the first service. At the beginning of our church planting, some predicted that our church wouldn’t survive the first three years. But we are still here worshiping, teaching the word of God, and preaching the gospel. Looking back on those twelve years, I am reminded of the things and people I feel grateful for. God has been faithful to us through our numerous trials. The church continued to grow. Even though we had our Sunday worship service at 2:00 P.M., we had more than seventy people in worship. Afterwards, many moved and students left after graduation. Several simply left the church. I had a time of pain, reflection, and supplication. God granted us so great grace that we were able to purchase our present chapel during the most trying time. All our people participated in the church renovation project for three months. Five years have passed since then. During this period, the coronavirus pandemic broke out. Our students went back to Korea. Even during the pandemic, about ten people kept on worship every Lord’s Day. Above all, I am grateful to God that I can conduct worship service and preach the word. Our church turns 12 by all God’s grace. The church celebrates the 12^th anniversary on account of the prayers, devotion, services, and love of all our members. I would like to express my deep appreciation to all those who had been with the church, all those who had left the church, and all those who remain currently in the church. Since we planted our Grace Church, we have been trying to make a church that practices the principle of loving God and neighbor with His enabling love. We are still trying to fulfill this purpose. I pray all that we do inside and outside of the church would be used for this purpose. We attempt to witness even to a single soul, make him or her a disciple, and glorify God. Reminding ourselves of this purpose, we seek the Lord’s enabling grace: “Lord, establish your church even through feeble ones like us. Help us lead lost souls to the Lord. Grant us strength and courage so that we can practice love. And let our Grace Church be there for the glory of God!
