성경(The Bible)

성경은 믿을 만한 책입니다. 성경은 문화와 시대를 초월한 베스트 셀러 고전입니다. 그런데 요즘은 많은 크리스천들이 성경을 잘 읽지 않습니다. 성경에 무지하지만 성경은 사랑한다고 말합니다. 이상한 이중성입니다. 크리스천은 한 책의 사람입니다. 성경으로 사는 사람이 믿는 자입니다. 가짜 뉴스가 난무하는 불신의 시대에 성경은 정말 믿을 만하며 가치 있는 책일까요? 성경의 양면성은 그 신빙성과 가치를 증명해 줍니다. 먼저 성경의 사실성이 그것을  증명해 줍니다. 성경은 인간의 현실을 사실적으로 묘사합니다. 인간의 생로병사를 보여줍니다. 인간의 마음 실체를 폭로합니다. 미움, 질투, 살인, 간음, 용서치 않음, 분노, 탐욕, 정욕 등, 마음의 부패함을 사실적으로 기술합니다. 인물, 역사, 갈등 이야기를 있는 그대로 묘사하며 인간이 어떤 존재인지 보여줍니다. 성경의 이야기 속에서 우리의 이야기를 발견합니다. 그래서 우리는 성경에서 지혜와 위로를 발견합니다. 우리 마음, 우리 실존, 우리의 죄, 우리의 구원, 우리 미래를 보여줍니다. 자신을 이해하려면 성경을 읽으면 됩니다. 인간의 죄 문제를 해결할 길을 제시해 줍니다. 구주이신 예수님을 보여줍니다. 죄를 회개하고 그분을 믿도록 촉구합니다. 성경의 증언은 허구가 아니라 사실입니다. 인간, 하나님, 역사에 대한 사실적 진술이 성경의 신빙성과 가치를 증명합니다. 둘째 성경의 초월성이 성경의 신빙성과 가치를 증명해 줍니다. 성경을 기록한 것은 40여명의 사람들입니다. 그러나 성경의 원저자는 하나님이십니다. 성령에 감동으로 쓰여졌습니다. 궁극적으로 하나님의 책입니다. 이것은 성경의 초월성입니다. 성경은 하나님의 초자연적인 역사를 담고 있습니다. 수많은 기적들이 나옵니다. 천지 창조, 출애굽, 홍해 사건, 동정녀 탄생, 오병이어의 기적, 십자가 죽음, 부활, 승천 등 성경은 기적의 책입니다. 천국에 대한 이야기도 나옵니다. 초자연적, 초이성적 이야기는 현실에만 매여 사는 우리에게 소망을 줍니다. 이 세상이 전부가 아님을 알게 합니다. 영원한 나라에 대한 소망으로 살게 합니다. 성경은 사실적 이야기들과 초월적 이야기들을 통하여 인간과 하나님을 가르쳐 줍니다. 우리에게 구원의 진리를 알려 줍니다. 우리에게 지혜와 위로와 소망의 책입니다.  그러므로 우리는 성경을 믿고 사랑하며 성경으로 살아야 하는 것입니다. 

The Bible is reliable. The Bible is an all-time bestseller classic that transcends culture and time. But Christians today do not read the Bible much. They are ignorant of the Bible. Yet they claim to love it. This is an example of strange contradiction.  Christians are people of one Book. They live by the Bible. Is the Bible really reliable and worthwhile in an age of doubt characterized by the abundance of false news? The twofold nature of the Bible supports its reliability and value. First, the realistic nature of the Bible support them. The Bible realistically depicts man’s reality. It shows man’s birth, aging, disease, and death. It debunks what’s really in the heart of man. The Bible describes the corruption of the heart as it is: hatred, jealousy, murder, fornication, unforgiving spirit, anger, covetousness, lust, etc. It reveals what man is by telling us the stories of people, history, and conflict. We find our stories in the Bible stories. So, we find wisdom and comfort in the Bible. The Bible shows us our heart, existence, sin, salvation, and future. If we understand who we are, we must turn to the Bible. It teaches us how to solve our fundamental problem of sin. It reveals Jesus the Savior to us. It calls on us to repent of sin and believe in Jesus. The testimony of the Bible is not fictional, but truthful. The factual description of man, God, and history lends support to the trustworthiness and worthwhileness of the Bible. Also, the transcendent nature of the Bible supports it. The Bible was written by around 40 people. But the original author of the Bible is God. The Bible was written by the inspiration of the Spirit. It is ultimately God’s Book. So, it is transcendent. It contains God’s supernatural work. It tells of many miracle stories. The Bible is a book of miracle: Creation, Exodus, the Red Sea crossing, Virgin birth of Christ, the miracle of Five loaves and Two fish, Christ’s death, resurrection, ascension, etc. Also, it talks about heaven. The stories that transcends our nature and reason give hope to those of us who live in bondage to realities. They teach us that this world is not everything. The Bible leads us to live in hope of God’s eternal kingdom. The Bible teaches us about God and man through its realistic and transcendent stories. It reveals the truth of salvation to us. It gives us wisdom, comfort, and hope. So, we must believe, love, and live by the Bible.
