코로나바이러스(Coronavirus)

코로나바이러스 전염병으로 온 세상이 공포에 떨고 있는 듯 보입니다. 불과 얼마 전에만 해도 이런 일이 전 세계를 얼어붙게 할 것이라고 상상하지 못했습니다. 빨리 지나가길 바라지만 들려오는 소식은 오히려 우리의 소원을 무색하게 합니다. 특히 한국 대구에 확진자가 급증하고 있다는 소식에 마음이 무겁습니다. 대부분 우리들은 가족들이 한국에 있습니다. 세계 부자인 빌 게이츠는 인류가 핵전쟁이 아닌 바이러스에의해 멸망할 가능성이 높다고 예견했습니다. 그의 예견이 설득력을 얻고 있습니다. 종교인들은 종말의 전조라고 선포합니다. 경제인들은 돈줄이 되는 경제가 얼어붙어 걱정합니다. 정치인들은 정치적 입지를 위하여 눈치를 보고 있습니다. 일반인들은 별 생각을 없지 지내다가 혹 감염될까 내심 불안을 떨쳐 버릴 수가 없습니다. 그렇다면 우리는 이러한 때를 어떻게 대처해야 할까요? 조심이라는 말이 떠오릅니다. 영적으로도 그렇고 위생적으로도 그렇습니다. 영적으로 깨어 기도할 때입니다. 영적인 잠을 깨우고 각성하는 시간이 되어야 합니다. 확진자들이 무슨 더 큰 죄를 지어서 감염된 것이 아닙니다.  예수님은 자연 재앙이나 사고로 죽은 사람들이 우리보다 죄가 많아서 그렇게 된 것이 아니라고 말씀하십니다. 우리에게 회개하고 하나님께로 돌이키라고 말씀하십니다. 우리는 이러한 위기의 때에 자신을 돌아보며 겸손히 주님의 자비를 구해야 합니다. 주님만이 살길임을 인정하고 그 분에게 나와야 합니다.  뿐만 아니라 현실적으로 대비할 필요가 있습니다. 사람이 많이 모이는 곳을 피해야 합니다. 손을 깨끗하게 씻어야 합니다. 때가 되면 마스크를 착용해서 전염을 피해야 합니다. 감염을 피할 뿐 아니라 감염의 통로가 되지 않도록 주의해야 합니다. 믿음이 있으면 감염되지 않는다고 착각하지 말아야 합니다. 코로나바이러스는 신자와 불신자를 구별하지 않습니다. 그러므로 조심해야 합니다. 마스크, 물, 음식 등을 만약의 경우를 생각해서 대비해 두어야 합니다. “우리는 괜찮아. 아무 a일 없을 거야”라고 단정하지 말아야 합니다. 영적인 준비와 위생적인 준비를 함께 하는 것이 지혜입니다. 지나친 두려움은 우리를 해칩니다. 무모한 과신도 금물입니다. 하나님을 경외하는 마음으로 코로나바이러스에 적절하게 대비하는 자세는 성경적입니다. 코로나바이러스로 고통받는 이들을 위하여 기도합시다. 우리의 가족들과 이웃들을 지켜 주시기를 기도합시다. 온 세상이 코로나바이러스로 장악되지 않도록 기도합시다. 

It seems the whole world is trembling in fear because of the rapid spread of the coronavirus. Even a while ago, no one didn’t imagine something like this would freeze the whole world. Even though we wish it to be gone as quickly as possible, the media daily pour the horrifying news of the coronavirus into our hearts. We feel heavy due to the swift increase of the confirmed cases in Daegu, South Korea. Most of us have families in Korea. The wealthiest man Bill Gates predicted that the world would be more likely to destroyed, not by nuclear wars, but by microbes. His foresight is gaining popularity among people. Religionists declares the coronavirus is a precursor of last days. Economists worry about the freezing of economy, that is, the dearth of money. Politicians carefully try to calculate the minds of people to their advantages. People in general seem to believe that they will be fine and at the same time can’t shake off their anxiety of being infected with the virus. Then, how are we to cope with the coronavirus crisis? Carefulness is the first word that comes to our mind. We must take care spiritually and hygienically. This is a time to wake up spiritually and pray. We must take it as a time of spiritual awakening. We must not suppose that confirmed patients have committed graver sins. Jesus says that those killed by natural disasters or accidents are worse sinners than we are. He calls on us to repent and turn back to God. In such a time like this, we must seek the Lord’s mercy humbly as we examine ourselves. We must acknowledge the Lord is the only way to live. Then, we must come to Him. Not only so, but also we need to make proper preparations for the possible outbreak of the virus around us. We must avoid the places a large crowd gather. We must wash our hands clean. In due time, we must wear masks to avoid the virus infection. Not only are we to avoid the infection, but also we must not be a channel of spreading the virus. We must never believe that we won’t be contaminated because of our faith. The virus doesn’t make distinction between believers and non-believers. So, we must take care. Beforehand, we must prepare masks, water, food, etc., for such in case. We must never aver “we will be fine, or nothing is going to happen to us.” Making Both spiritual and hygienical preparations is a wise measure. Excessive worry harms us. Overconfidence is forbidden. It is biblical that with fear of God we must make proper preparations for a corona virus crisis. Let’s pray for those suffering from the virus. Let’s pray God keeps our families and neighbors from it. Let’s pray that the coronavirus wouldn’t put the whole world under its influence.
