화평케 하는 자의 행복

찬양하기: 찬송가 427장-맘 가난한 사람

기도하기: 우리의 생명 되신 주님을 찬양합니다. 이곳에 오셔서 그리스도 안에서 드리는 우리의 예배를 받아 주소서. 참된 깨달음과 하늘의 기쁨으로 우리의 마음을 채워 주소서.

말씀 배우기: 마태복음 5:9을 함께 읽습니다: “화평케 하는 자는 복이 있나니 저희가 하나님의 아들이라 일컬음을 받을 것임이요.”

주제: 화평케 하는 자에게는 하나님의 자녀가 누리는 행복이 있습니다.   

세상은 겉으론 평화를 외치지만 마음엔 힘을 숭배합니다. 오늘날 크고 작은 모든 갈등의 배후에는 이기적인 힘 겨루기가 있습니다. 예수님은 이러한 현실 속에서 갈등하는 우리에게 분명하게 말씀하십니다: “화평케 하는 자에게는 하나님의 자녀가 누리는 행복이 있다.” 오늘은 이러한 점을 살펴 보려 합니다. 

첫째, 화평케 하는 자는 하나님과 화목한 자입니다. 화평케 하는 자는 그러한 기질을 타고난 자가 아닙니다. 그는 구원 받은 자로 하나님의 성령에 의해 화평케 하는 열매를 맺는 것입니다. 예수님은 십자가 죽음을 통하여 우리를 하나님과 화목 되게 하셨을 뿐만 아니라 우리에게 화목케 하는 직분을 맡겨 주셨습니다(고후 5:18). 하나님과 화목케 된 은혜를 경험한 자는 자신과 이웃과 화목함을 누릴 수 있습니다. 화목케 하는 자의 마음에는 관계의 평화가 있습니다.

둘째, 화평케 하는 자는 새 사람의 관점에서 행합니다. 하나님과 화목한 자는 옛 사람은 죽고 새 사람이 되었습니다. 새 사람은 새로운 관점, 곧 예수님의 관점을 가진 자입니다. 새 사람은 새로운 가치관과 세계관을 따라 화평케 하는 삶을 살아갑니다. 새 사람은 자기를 부인하고 이웃을 사랑하며 하나님께 영광 돌리는 새 관점으로 행하는 자입니다. 화평케 하는 자는 참된 평화를 위하여 이웃이 아닌 자기를 먼저 정복하는 자입니다. 이러한 자는 예수님과 친밀하며 천국을 누립니다.

셋째, 화평케 하는 자는 그리스도의 사랑으로 모든 이와 화목을 힘씁니다. 히브리서12:14은 말합니다: “모든 사람으로 더불어 화평함과 거룩함을 좇으라 이것이 없이는 아무도 주를 보지 못하리라.” 좋아하는 사람과만이 아니라 모든 이로 더불어 화평 하라고 말씀합니다. 화평함과 거룩함은 함께 합니다. 이웃과의 화평 없이는 거룩도 있을 수 없습니다. 이것이 없이는 하나님을 온전히 경험할 수 없습니다. 이삭은 이웃과 우물 문제로 어려움을 겪을 때 자기 권리를 포기하며 다른 곳으로 가서 우물을 팠습니다. 그럴 때 하나님은 그에게 나타나 아브라함에게 약속하신 복을 재 확증해 주셨습니다. (창26:22-29). 화평케 하는 자는 인내하며 희생을 감내해야 합니다.

넷째, 화평케 하는 자는 하나님의 자녀라 칭함 받습니다. “하나님의 아들”이라 칭함을 받는 것은 엄청난 특권과 책임과 축복입니다. 하나님 아버지는 능력과 사랑과 지혜가 끝이 없는 분이십니다. 자녀의 신분은 아버지의 신분에 따라 결정됩니다. 하나님의 자녀는 하나님 아버지를 닮습니다. 하나님은 어지러움의 하나님이 아니시요 화평의 하나님이십니다(고전 14:33). 화평케 하는 자는 갈라진 세상에 평화의 다리를 놓는 하나님의 자녀입니다. 하나님의 자녀가 되는 것보다 더 큰 행복은 없습니다.

 적용 나누기

1.      여러분은 그리스도의 십자가 대속을 통하여 하나님과 화목케 되었습니까? 하나님과의 적대적 관계를 끝내고 그리스도 안에서 하나님과 화목하십니까?

2.     이웃을 눌러야 할 경쟁자로 보십니까 아니면 함께 어우러져 살아야 할 동반자로 보십니까? 갈등하는 가족들을 어떻게 화목케 할 수 있는지 함께 이야기 해 보세요.

3.     반목이 있는 곳에 화목을 주려 노력해 보신 적이 있으면 함께 나누어 보세요. 하나님의 자녀가 누리는 행복은 어떤 것이라고 생각하십니까?

감사 나누기: 하나님께 감사드릴 것이 있으면 나누어 보세요. 한 주간 예수님과 어떤 사귐 가운데 살았는지 나누어 보세요.

기도하기: 성 프란시스의 기도를 따라 기도해 보세요: “주여, 나를 주님의 평화의 도구로 써 주소서. 미움이 있는 곳에는 사랑을, 상처가 있는 곳에는 용서를, 의심이 있는 곳에는 신뢰를, 절망이 있는 곳에는 소망을, 어둠이 있는 곳에는 빛을, 슬픔이 있는 곳에는 기쁨을 심게 하소서. 오 주여, 위로 받기 보단 위로하고, 이해 받기 보단 이해하며, 사랑 받기 보단 사랑하게 하소서. 이는 줌으로 받으며, 용서함으로 용서 받으며, 죽음으로 영생으로 태어나기 때문입니다. 아멘.”

Opening Prayer: We praise you, O Lord, for you are the life to us. Come unto this place and accept our worship, which we offer in Christ. Fill our hearts with true insight and joy of heaven.

Lesson: Read Matt. 5:9 together-“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be sone of God.”  

Theme: The peacemakers enjoy the blessings of children of God.

 The world calls for peace externally but worships power internally. Behind every conflict, either great or small, is selfish power struggle. Jesus speaks clearly to those of us struggling in such a reality: “The peacemakers enjoy the blessings of children of God.” Let’s look into this point today.

First, the peacemakers are those who have peace with God. Peacemaking is not an inborn temperament. The peacemakers here refer to those who bear the fruit of peace through the Holy Spirit. Jesus has not only reconciled us to God through His redemptive death on the cross, but He has also given us the ministry of reconciliation (2 Cor. 5:18). Those who have received the grace of reconciliation with God may enjoy peace with their neighbors and themselves as well. The hearts of peacemakers have peace in relationship.

Second, the peacemakers act from the perspective of “the new man.” As far as those reconciled to God are concerned, they are new creatures in Christ, because their “old man” is dead. “The new man” has a new perspective, that is, the perspective of Jesus. “The new man” lives a new life according to a new value system and worldview. “The new man” practice self-denial and love for neighbor; in so doing, they glorify God in life. For the sake of true peace, the peacemakers are God’s new creatures who subdue themselves rather than their neighbors. Intimate with Jesus, they enjoy heaven in relationship.    

Third, the peacemakers strive to have peace with everyone with love of Christ. Hebrews 12:14 says, “Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.” It says of peace not only with the likable but also everyone. Peace and holiness go hand in hand. There is no holiness without peace with neighbor. Holiness leads to experiencing God. When he had water issues with his neighbors, Isaac gave up his rights and moved to other places to dig wells. When he did so, God appeared to him and reconfirmed the blessings of the covenant with Abraham (Gen. 26:22-29). The peacemakers endure hardships, willing to sacrifice.    

Fourth, the peacemakers are called children of God. Being called “sons of God” is enormous privilege, responsibility, and blessing. God the Father has no limits in power, love, and wisdom. Status of the child is determined by status of the father. God’s children take after God the Father. God is not a God of disorder but of peace (1 Cor. 14:33). The peacemakers are God’s children, that is, Bridge-builders in a broken world.    

Application

1.      Have you been reconciled to God through Christ’s redemption on the cross? Do you have peace with God in Christ, having abandoned enmity against Him?

2.     Do you see your neighbor as a competitor you are to defeat or a friend you are to get along with? Discuss how you can be a peacemaker for those conflicting with each other in your family.   

3.     If you have made efforts to bring back peace to those feuding each other, please, share your efforts with one another. What kind of happiness do you think God’s children enjoy?

Closing Prayer: Please, follow the Peace Prayer of St. Francis: Lord, make me an instrument of your peace: where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy. O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.
