마음이 청결한 자의 행복

 찬양하기: 424장-아버지여 나의 맘을

기도하기: 하나님, 오늘도 우리 가족을 한 자리에 모아 주셔서 예배하게 하시니 감사합니다. 우리의 분주한 마음을 내려놓고 하나님께 집중할 수 있게 해 주세요. 함께 계신 하나님을 듣고 높이며 즐거워하게 하소서.

말씀 배우기: 마태복음 5:8을 함께 읽습니다: “마음이 청결한 자는 복이 있나니 저희가 하나님을 볼 것임이요.”

주제-마음의 청결은 하나님을 보는 영적 시각의 복을 줍니다.

현대인은 전 세대보다 더 잘 먹고 더 청결 한데도 더 행복하지는 않습니다. 우울증을 앓고 자살하는 이들이 증가했습니다. 이는 마음의 건강을 돌보지 않기 때문입니다. 예수님은 마음의 건강이 곧 마음의 청결이고 마음의 청결이 행복이라고 말씀하십니다. 마음의 청결이 하나님을 보는 영적 시각의 복을 준다고 말씀하십니다. 오늘은 이러한 점을 살펴 보려 합니다.

첫째, 마음의 상태가 행복을 결정합니다. 마음은 정신적, 심리적, 영적 활동이 일어나는 곳입니다. 마음의 상태는 인격을 결정합니다. 인격은 행복과 직결됩니다. 사람들은 외모는 잘 가꾸지만 마음은 가꾸지 않습니다. 그래서 온갖 죄악의 잡초가 무성합니다(마15:19-20). 문제는 마음이 마음대로 잘 되지 않는다는 것입니다. 마음의 공허함, 심심함, 외로움, 우울함을 근본적으로 해결할 수 없습니다. 많은 이들이 새 물건, 엔터테인먼트, 술, 도박 등으로 마음의 흥분을 유지하며 삶의 적적함을 잊어보려 하지만 결코 행복하지는 않습니다. 우리의 마음이 성령과 말씀으로 충만할 때, 믿음과 소망과 사랑의 인격이 빗어집니다. 마음이 주님의 보좌가 될 때 삶에는 질서와 조화가 있고 행복합니다.

둘째, 청결한 마음이 행복합니다. 청결한 마음은 타고난 기질이 아니라 거듭난 성품입니다. 헬라어 “카싸로스”는 옷에서 더러운 얼룩을 씻어낸 상태, 광물에서 이물질을 녹여낸 상태, 혹은 곡물에서 껍질을 벗겨 낸 상태를 묘사할 때 사용되었습니다. 마음의 청결은 진실한 마음, 위선이 없는 마음, 나뉘지 않은 마음을 뜻합니다. 마음의 청결함을 유지하려면 먼저 자기 마음이 깨끗하지 못하다는 것을 인정하고 애통하며 회개해야 합니다. 예수 그리스도의 피로 마음의 죄를 씻어 달라고 기도해야 합니다. 예수님을 마음의 보좌로 초청하고 그분의 말씀을 따라 거룩한 삶을 힘써야 합니다. 나뉘지 않는 한 마음으로 하나님을 소원하는 마음이 청결한 마음, 곧 행복한 마음입니다. 

셋째, 청결한 마음은 하나님의 임재의 복을 누립니다. 마음이 청결한 자는 믿음으로 하나님을 봅니다. 말씀을 보며 하나님을 봅니다. 아름다운 자연 속에서 하나님의 솜씨와 지혜를 봅니다. 인간의 역사를 보며 하나님의 섭리를 봅니다. 고난 중에도 하나님의 함께 하심을 봅니다. 하나님을 본다는 것은 하나님의 임재를 경험하는 것입니다. 현재는 희미하게 그분을 보지만 장차 천국에서는 그분을 온전하게 보게 될 것입니다(요일3:2-3). 마음이 청결한 자는 주님을 볼 소망을 가지고 매일 정결하게 자신을 지키며 살아갑니다. 그토록 사랑하며 보길 갈망하던 하나님을 본다는 것은 형용할 수 없는 기쁨과 영광이 될 것입니다. 이러한 행복이 마음이 청결한 자의 몫입니다.

적용 나누기

1.      여러분은 마음을 매일 점검하십니까? 여러분이 행복하지 않다면 여러분의 마음 상태가 어떠 해서 그런 것이라 생각하십니까?  

2.     여러분은 마음을 청결하게 하려고 어떤 노력을 하십니까? 여러분이 보는 것과 듣는 것이 여러분의 마음에 어떤 영향을 미치고 있습니까?

3.     오랫동안 보고 싶은 이를 마침내 보게 되었을 때 어떤 마음일까요? 천국에서 주님을 보게 될 때 무엇을 고백하고 싶으십니까?

감사 나누기: 하나님께 감사드릴 것이 있으면 나누어 보세요. 한 주간 예수님과 어떤 사귐 가운데 살았는지 나누어 보세요.

기도하기: 오 하나님, 성경 속의 예수님을 통하여 하나님을 보게 하시니 감사합니다. 정말 하나님의 사랑, 은혜, 권능이 놀랍습니다. 우리가 세상의 죄악된 것을 무분별하게 보고 들어서 마음이 더러워져 주님을 제대로 보지 못함을 용서해 주세요. 주님이 우리 마음의 보좌에 앉으셔서 우리를 다스려 주세요. 우리 마음이 주님의 아름다움을 보며 천국을 누리게 해 주세요.

Opening Prayer: O Father, we are so grateful that you have gathered us together here to worship you. Please, help us concentrate on you, leaving our busyness behind. Please, help us hear, exalt, and enjoy you, O God, being here with us.

Lesson: Read Matt. 5:8 together-“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”  

Theme: Purity of heart gives us spiritual sight to see God.

Moderners, though they have better food and hygiene than the previous generations, are not happier. Depression and suicide are on the rise. It is because they don’t take care of their mental health. Jesus regards soundness of heart as purity of heart. And He defines purity of heart as happiness. He says purity of heart leads to spiritual sight to see God. We shall delve into this point.

First, the condition of heart determines happiness. Mental, psychological, or spiritual activities occur in heart. The condition of heart determines character. Character is directly tied to happiness. People decorate their appearances well, but do not adorn their hearts accordingly. So, their hearts are overrun with all sorts of sinful weeds (Matt. 15:19-20). The problem is they can’t control their hearts at their disposal. They can’t basically resolve emptiness, boredom, loneliness, or melancholy in heart. Though many attempt to their keep hearts excited and lonesomeness forgotten with new devices, entertainment, alcohol, gambling, etc., they are not happy at all. When our hearts are filled with the Spirit and Word, the character of faith, hope, and love is formed within us. When one’s heart becomes the throne of the Lord, then there is order and harmony in life. And happiness follows.

Second, happiness lies in a pure heart. A pure heart is not an inborn temperament, but a reborn disposition. The Greek word “katharos” was used of soiled clothing which had been washed clean, metal without any trace of alloy, or grain from which all chaff had been removed. Purity of heart refers to a genuine, unhypocritical, or undivided heart. To keep our hearts pure, we should first acknowledge our hearts are not pure, and mourn and repent of our sins. We should plead with the Lord that He would cleanse our hearts from sins by His precious blood. Inviting the Lord into the throne of our heart, we should endeavor to live a life of holiness according to His Word. A pure heart, that is, a happy heart desires God with an undivided, single-mined heart.

Third, a pure heart enjoys the presence of God. The pure in heart see God by faith. As they read the Bible, they see God. They see God’s skills and wisdom in a beautiful world of nature. They see God’s providence as they look into human history. They see God being with them even they see through their suffering. Seeing God means experiencing His presence. Even though we see Him dimly now, we shall see Him perfectly in heaven (1 Jn. 3:2-3). The pure in heart keep themselves pure in their daily living with a hope of seeing the Lord. Seeing God, whom we love and desire to see so much, shall be indescribable joy and glory. Such happiness is the lot of the poor in heart.   

Application

1.      Do you do a daily check on the condition of your heart? If you are not happy, please, check on the condition of your heart to see why you are not happy.

2.     What efforts do you make to keep your heart pure? How do things you see and hear affect the condition of your heart?

3.     Think about how you feel when you see the one you have been missing for a long time. What do you want to say to the Lord when you see Him in heaven?

Closing Prayer: O Father, we are so thankful that you have shown yourself to us through Jesus in the Bible. How wonderful your love, grace, and power are! Please, forgive us our failure to see the Lord properly due to our hearts tainted by the sinful things of the world we have seen and heard without discerning. Please, come and sit on the throne of our heart and rule over us. Please, let our hearts see the beauty of the Lord and enjoy heaven.
