성령의 기름 부음을 위하여 기도하라(Pray for the anointing of the Holy Spirit!)

기도할 때 우리는 성품의 변화를 구하는 경우는 거의 없고 항상 상황의 변화를 구하는 것이 이상합니다. 그러나 우리는 하나님께서 성령을 통해 우리의 속사람을 강하게 하시고 우리의 속사람에 그리스도를 닮은 성품을 형성해 주시도록 기도해야 합니다. 기도로 형성된 그리스도를 닮은 성품은 인생의 시련에 대항하는 힘이 될 수 있습니다. 우리는 기도에 충실해야 합니다. 윌버 채프먼 박사는 젊은 시절 필라델피아의 한 교회에 목사가 되러 갔을 때의 경험에 대해 자주 이야기했습니다. 첫 설교를 마친 후 한 노신사가 그에게 "당신은 이 교회의 목사가 되기에는 너무 젊군요. 하지만 당신은 복음을 전하고 있으니 내가 할 수 있는 모든 것을 도와주겠습니다."라고 말했습니다. 채프먼 박사는 "여기 멍청한 사람이 있군"이라고 생각했습니다. 그러나 그 남자는 계속 말했습니다: "당신에게 성령의 능력이 임하도록 기도하겠습니다. 다른 두 사람이 저와 함께 당신을 위해 기도하기로 서약했습니다."라고 말했습니다. 채프먼 박사는 "그가 저를 위해 기도해준다는 사실을 알았을 때 기분이 그렇게 나쁘지 않았습니다. 3명이 10명이 되고, 10명이 20명이 되고, 20명이 50명이 되고, 50명이 200명이 되어 매 예배 전에 모여 성령이 내게 임하시도록 기도했습니다. 저는 항상 저를 위해 신실하게 기도해 주신 분들의 기도에 대한 응답으로 기름 부음을 받을 것이라는 생각으로 강단에 섰습니다. 설교하는 것은 기쁨이었습니다! 그 결과 3년 동안 1,100명이 회심하여 우리 교회에 들어왔고 그 중 600명이 남자였습니다. 기도에 응답하신 성령의 열매였습니다!" 이것은 우리 교회 복음 사역에 필요한 성령의 강력한 기름 부으심에 대한 간증입니다.우리의 속사람이 기도를 통해 하나님의 능하게 하심에 대한 성령 충만한 확신으로 채워질 때, 우리는 바울과 함께 다음과 같이 말할 수 있습니다: “내게 능력 주시는 자 안에서 내가 모든 것을 할 수 있느니라”(빌4:13). 능력의 원천은 우리가 아니라 그리스도에게 있습니다. 따라서 우리는 성령을 통해 우리를 강하게 하시는 그리스도를 믿음으로 바라보아야 합니다. 우리가 우울할 때, 우리는 우리를 위해 끊임없이 중보하시는 하나님을 기억하고 주권자 아버지 앞에 무릎을 꿇어 동료 신자들이 인생의 모든 시련에 맞서 영적인 능력을 경험하도록 해야 합니다. 그리스도는 늘 우리를 위해 중보 하십니다. 우리는 교회의 갈등과 분열에 맞설 용기와 힘을 달라고 기도해야 합니다. 로버트 맥체인은 이렇게 말하였습니다: "옆방에서 나를 위해 기도하는 그리스도의 음성을 들을 수 있다면 수많은 적을 두려워하지 않을 것입니다. 그분은 나를 위해 기도하고 계시니 거리는 아무런 차이가 없습니다." 

It is strange that, while praying, we seldom ask for a change of character, but always a change in circumstance. But we must pray God strengthens our inner persons through the Holy Spirit and form Christlikeness in our inner persons. Our Christlike character formed in prayer may serve as a power against trials in life. We must be faithful in our prayer business. Dr. Wilbur Chapman often told of his experience when, as a young man, he went to become pastor of a church in Philadelphia. After his first sermon, an old gentleman said to him, "You're pretty young to be pastor of this church. But you preach the Gospel, and I'm going to help you all I can." Dr. Chapman thought, "Here's a crank." But the man continued: "I'm going to pray for you that you may have the Holy Spirit's power upon you. Two others have covenanted to join with me in prayer for you." Dr. Chapman said, "I didn't feel so bad when I learned he was going to pray for me. The 3 became 10, the 10 became 20, and 20 became 50, the 50 became 200 who met before every service to pray that the Holy Spirit might come upon me. I always went into my pulpit feeling that I would have the anointing in answer to the prayers of those who had faithfully prayed for me. It was a joy to preach! The result was that we received 1,100 into our church by conversion in three years, 600 of whom were men. It was the fruit of the Holy Spirit in answer to prayer!" This is a testimony about the powerful anointing of the Holy Spirit, which we need in our church gospel ministry. When our inner persons are filled with the Spirit-filled assurance of divine enablement through prayer, we can say the following along with Paul: “I can do all things through him who strengthens me” (Phil. 4:13). The source of power lies not in us, but in Christ. So, we must look to Christ by faith, who strengthens us through the Holy Spirit. Christ is our compassionate High Priest who makes intercession for us in heaven. When we feel down, we must remind ourselves of Christ’s constant intercession for us and bow our knees before our sovereign Father for our fellow believers to experience spiritual enablement against all trials in life. Christ always intercedes for us. We must pray for courage and strength against conflicts and divisions in the church. Robert Murray M’Cheyne said: “If I could hear Christ praying for me in the next room, I would not fear a million of enemies. Yet the distance makes no difference; he is praying for me.”
