부활절(Easter)

오늘은 부활절을 기념하는 주일입니다. 이 날 주님께서 부활하신 날은 아닙니다. 그러나 일년에 한 날을 정하여 예수 그리스도의 부활과 부활하신 주님을 기억하고 예배하는 것은 우리의 신앙 생활에 활력을 불어넣어 줍니다. 우리는 시간 속에서 살아갑니다. 시간의 흐름과 함께 우리는 중요한 사건과 가치들을 망각하기 쉽습니다. 그렇기에 하나님은 그 백성들이 중요한 구원의 역사를 기념하여 절기로 지키라고 명합니다. 구약의 이스라엘 백성들은 유월절, 오순절, 장막절 등 다양한 절기들을 지켰습니다. 이 절기들은 하나님께서 그 백성들을 위하여 행하신 구속의 역사와 관련이 있습니다. 그러므로 이러한 절기 때는 예배를 드리며 자신들의 신앙을 점검하여 중심을 잡으며 하나님께 재-헌신하는 시간으로 삼았습니다. 비록 구속의 역사는 과거에 일어났지만 그 결과와 효력은 여전히 현재적으로 적용되어야 하는 것이었습니다. 이스라엘 백성들은 매년 절기들을 지킴으로 하나님의 구속적 사건들을 재현, 혹은 다시 그것들을 경험하는 시간으로 삼았습니다. 예수님의 부활은 2천년 전의 역사입니다. 그러나 그 부활의 효력은 현재 진행형이며 영원합니다. 주석가 리온 모리스는 다음과 같은 말을 하였습니다. “그리스도를 죽음에서 다시 살리신 것과 동일한 능력이 그리스도의 사람인 사람들 안에서 작동합니다. 부활은 현재 진행형입니다.” 그 부활을 통해 우리는 의롭다 하심을 얻었습니다. 그 부활을 통해 사망에 대한 승리를 보장 받았습니다. 그 부활을 통해 예수께서 하나님의 아들로 온 만물을 통치하시는 왕이 되었음을 알게 되었습니다. 우리에게 예수님의 부활은 우리의 구원을 가능케 하신 사건입니다. 그리고 부활하신 주님은 성령을 통하여 우리와 함께 계십니다. 그 분은 무덤에 갇혀 있지 않습니다. 사랑하는 백성들의 가슴에 살아 계십니다. 부활의 주님이 우리의 완전한 의이며 영광스런 승리이며 영원한 소망입니다. 우리는 부활절을 지키며 승리하신 주님을 예배합니다. 부활절의 의미를 깊이 새기며 주님을 향한 우리의 사랑과 헌신을 재-다짐하는 시간되길 기도합니다. 

Today is Easter Sunday. This doesn’t mean that today is the day that Jesus rose from the dead. But we set one day apart to remember the resurrection of Christ and worship the risen Christ. By doing so, we experience a renewal of our spiritual life. We live in time. The passage of time may cause us to forget important events and values in life. So, God commanded His people to observe religious festivals. The people of Israel in OT times were called to keep Passover, Pentecost, the Feast of Tabernacle, and so forth. These festivals are related to God’s redemptive events in history. The people of Israel, while observing the appointed feasts in worship, recalled what God had done for them, brought them back to God, and renewed their allegiance to God. Although God’s redemption took place in the past, they were to apply its consequence and effects to their daily living. By keeping religious festivals every year, they reenacted those redemptive events and tried to experience them in their hearts. Christ rose again from the dead two thousand years ago. But its effects are ongoing and valid forever. Commentator Leon Morris said, “The same power that brought Christ back from the dead is operative within those who are Christ’s. The resurrection is an ongoing thing.” Due to Christ’s resurrection, we are justified and we are assured of victory. Christ’s resurrection is evidence whereby we know that Jesus was vindicated as the Son of God whose kingship covers the entire universe. His resurrection made our salvation possible. The risen Lord is with us through His Spirit. He is no longer confined to the tomb. He is alive in the hearts of His beloved people. The risen Lord is our perfect righteousness, glorious victory, and everlasting hope. As we celebrate Easter, we worship the triumphant Lord. Let’s remember the significance of Christ’s resurrection. Let’s renew our love and allegiance to the Lord during this Easter.
