하나님의 사랑(The love of God)

하나님을 대표하는 도덕적 성품은 사랑입니다. 성경을 한마디로 요약한다면 죄인들을 향한 하나님의 사랑 이야기라고도 할 수 있습니다. 그 사랑 이야기는 예수 그리스도의 십자가에서 가장 극복으로 드러납니다. 하나님은 죄와 허물로 그와 원수 된 자들을 위하여 그 독생자를 십자가 죽음에 내어 주셨습니다. 이는 인간의 영역, 경험, 생각, 능력, 언어를 뛰어넘은 초자연적인 사랑입니다. 자격을 따지지 않는 무조건적인 사랑입니다. 말로만 하는 사랑이 아니라 생명을 주심으로 증명된 진정한 사랑입니다. 쉽게 변하는 일시적인 격정의 사랑이 아니라 영원히 변치 않는 신실한 사랑입니다. 아무런 힘이 없는 형식적인 사랑이 아니라 우리의 존재 전체를 변화시키는 전능한 사랑입니다. 모든 사람은 실로 이러한 사랑을 갈구하고 있습니다. 사랑하고 사랑 받는 사람은 행복한 사람입니다. 사랑은 힘이 있습니다. 상하고 우울한 마음을 치유합니다. 삶의 공허함에 시달리는 사람들에게 삶의 활력을 회복시켜 줍니다. 모든 것을 포기하고 죽기를 바라는 자들에게 살고자 하는 의욕과 소망을 불러일으킵니다. 절망에 빠진 자들을 다시 일으켜 세우고 참된 기쁨을 선사합니다. 왜 살아야 하는지를 모르는 자들에게 살아야 이유를 제공하고 삶에 대한 기대를 가지게 합니다. 사랑하기 때문에 사랑하는 자들을 위하여 하나 밖에 없는 소중한 생명을 내어줄 수 있게 하는 힘이 바로 사랑입니다. 이것은 하나님의 사랑을 닮았기 때문에 변화를 일으키는 원동력이 될 수 있습니다. 모든 사람은 이러한 사랑을 간절히 원합니다. 하지만 세상 어느 곳에서도 이러한 사랑을 찾아 볼 수 없습니다. 그래서 사람들은 사랑에 굶주린 결핍을 채우려 모든 것을 시도합니다: 연애, 돈, 섹스, 마약, 엔터테인먼트, 공부, 일, 결혼, 종교, 인간 관계, 술, 운동, 여행 등등. 하지만 하나님의 사랑을 경험하지 않고는 이러한 결핍이 근본적으로 해소되지 않습니다. 사람은 우주보다 큰 하나님이 사랑이 우주 같이 넓은 사람의 내면을 채우기 전에는 여전히 공허함에 시달립니다. 죄로 인해 망가진 인생이 새로워지려면 죄를 용서하시고 회복시키는 하나님의 사랑을 경험해야 합니다. 이러한 사랑을 깨달으면 자신이 하나님을 저버린 죄인을 깨닫고 예수 그리스도 밖에는 구주가 없음을 고백하게 됩니다. 하나님은 이미 성령으로 통하여 그리스도를 안에서 완전한 사랑을 우리에게 주셨습니다. 우리의 문제는 이 사랑을 받지 않은 것처럼 다른 것으로 사랑의 결핍을 채우려 한다는 것입니다. 우리는 다른 것이 아닌 예수님께 나아가야 합니다. 예수님의 십자가 사랑이 우리의 영혼을 채우도록 성령 안에서 간절하게 기도해야 합니다. 기도로 사랑의 교제가 두터워질 때 믿음 생활에 속박, 절망, 슬픔, 무기력이 아닌 자유, 소망, 기쁨, 활력이 가득해 집니다.

God's defining moral characteristic is love. If the Bible could be summarized in a single word, it would be the story of God's love for sinners, a love story that culminated in the cross of Jesus Christ. God gave His only begotten Son to die on the cross for those who were enemies of Him in their sins and trespasses. This is a supernatural love that is beyond the realm of human experience, thought, ability, and language. It is an unconditional love without qualification. It's not a love of words, but a true love proven by the giving of life. It's not a temporary passionate love that changes easily, but a faithful love that endures forever. Not a formality that has no power, but an all-powerful love that transforms our entire being. In reality, everyone longs for this kind of love. Happy are those who love and are loved. Love is powerful. It heals broken and depressed hearts. It restores vitality to those who suffer from the emptiness of life. It inspires the will and desire to live in those who have given up everything and wish to die. It lifts up those who have fallen into despair and gives them true joy. It gives those who don't know why to live a reason to live and gives them something to look forward to in life. It is love that enables us to lay down our only precious life for those we love because we love them. It can be a transformative force because it is a reflection of God's love. Everyone longs for this kind of love. But this love is nowhere to be found in the world, so people try everything to fill their love-hungry deficit: Dating, money, sex, drugs, entertainment, studying, working, marriage, religion, relationships, alcohol, exercise, traveling, etc. But without experiencing God's love, these deficiencies are never fundamentally addressed. We are still plagued by emptiness until God, whose love is bigger than the universe, fills our heart that is as wide as the universe. In order for a life ruined by sin to be made new, a person must experience God's forgiving and restoring love. When a person realizes this love, they realize they are a sinner who has rejected God and confess that they have no Savior except Jesus Christ. God has already given us His perfect love in Christ through the Holy Spirit. Our problem is that we try to fill our love deficit with something else, as if we have not received this love. We must come to Jesus, not to something else. We must pray fervently in the Holy Spirit that the love of Jesus' cross will fill our souls. When the fellowship of love is strengthened by prayer, the life of faith is filled with freedom, hope, joy, and vitality, not bondage, despair, sadness, and lethargy.
