연결됨(Connected)

연결되어 있다는 것은 경우에 따라 생명을 뜻하기도 합니다. 암벽 등반자가 로프에 연결되어 있다는 것은 그에게 생명입니다. 그렇지만 그 줄이 끊어지면 그는 떨어져 사망하게 됩니다. 알래스카의 눈썰매 줄에 연결되어 있느냐 마느냐는 생명이 될 수도 있고 사망이 될 수도 있습니다. 장작들도 서로 붙어서 있을 때 활활 타 오릅니다. 그러나 하나만 따로 떼어 놓으면 곧 불씨가 꺼지고 맙니다. 혈관들이 서로 연결되어 있을 때 생명이 있는 것입니다. 그것들이 서로 끊어지면 우리는 곧 죽게 됩니다. 이처럼 연결되어 있다는 것은 매우 중요합니다. 언젠가 컴퓨터로 문서 작업을 하고 있었습니다. 그런데 갑자기 픽 소리를 내면서 컴퓨터가 꺼지고 말았습니다. 컴퓨터가 늙어서 수명이 다 했나 생각합니다. 그런데 문제는 그것이 아니었습니다. 코드가 전원에서 빠져 있었던 것입니다. 최근에 차가 시동이 걸리지 않았습니다. 키를 돌려도 전혀 반응이 없었습니다. 차가 낡아서 그런가 생각했습니다. 아니었습니다. 배터리 연결이 제대로 되어 있지 않았습니다. 연결되어 있다는 것은 제대로 작동한다는 것을 의미합니다. 우리는 두 가지 중요한 연결 고리가 있습니다. 첫째는 예수님과 연결되어 있습니다. 예수님은 포도나무이고 우리는 가지입니다. 예수님은 머리이고 우리는 몸입니다. 예수님은 신랑이며 우리는 신부입니다. 예수님은 모퉁이 돌이시고 우리는 건물입니다. 벌써 2월 달이 중순으로 접어 들고 있습니다. 봄이 살금살금 다가오고 있습니다. 올 초 주님과 동행하겠다던 마음의 연결 고리가 느슨해지고 있지는 점검해 보아야 합니다. 머리로는 예수님을 생각하지만 마음에서는 예수님이 없을 수 있습니다. 말씀과 기도로 예수님과 연결 고리를 더욱 강화시켜 합니다. 예수님으로부터 뒤처져 헤매지 말아야 합니다. 예수님 옆에서 보폭을 맞추며 함께 걸어가야 합니다. 이것이 그리스도 안에서 영생을 사는 길입니다. 둘째는 예수님 안에서 성도와 성도가 연결되어 있습니다. 건강한 교회는 사랑으로 연결되어 있습니다. 함께 삶을 나눕니다. 현대인은 극단적 개인주의로 인해 고립과 단절된 삶을 살아갑니다. 교회는 이러한 점을 극복하는 곳입니다. 섬기는 하나님이 같고 고백하는 믿음이 같고 추구하는 목적이 같습니다. 왜냐하면 그리스도의 피로 연결된 한 가족이기 때문입니다. 주위에 믿음에서 뒤처진 가족이 있는지 돌아봄이 필요합니다. 삶에 지쳐 괴로워하는 가족이 있는지 살펴 보아야 합니다. 우는 자로 함께 울고 웃는 자로 함께 웃는 사랑의 공동체가 되어야 합니다. 예수님의 십자가 사랑의 능력이 하나님과 이웃 사랑을 실천할 수 있는 근원이 됩니다. 주님과 이웃과의 사랑의 연결 고리를 든든히 하며 남은 한 해를 달려갑시다. 이것이 바로 믿음 생활입니다. 

Being connected occasionally implies life. The rock climber, when he is connected to the rope, is alive. But if he is disconnected from the rope, he may fall and die. Whether being connected to the snow sled or not may mean life or death in Alaska. Firewood logs, when piled up together, burn well. But, if a log is taken out of the pile, then its flame slowly dies out. Blood vessels, when connected, flows life. If disconnected, life disappears. Being connected is of utmost import. One day, I was writing a paper on the computer. The computer suddenly shut down with a hissing sound. I thought the computer died because it was aged. But that was not the problem. It was unplugged. Recently, I couldn’t start my car. I kept turning the key. The car kept silent. I thought it might be due to the old age of the car. But that was not the problem. The problem was the battery connection. Being connected means properly functioning. We have two important connecting links. First, we are connected to Jesus. Jesus is the Vine and we are the branches. Jesus is the Head and we are the body. Jesus is the Bridegroom and we are the bride. Jesus is the Cornerstone and we are the building. We are already entering the middle of February. Spring is coming on tiptoe. We must examine whether our new year’s resolution, that is, walking with the Lord, maintains its link to the Lord or not. We may some thoughts on Jesus, but we may not have Him in our hearts. We must reinforce our link to Jesus through prayer and word. We must not be left behind Jesus, wandering aimlessly. We must closely keep in step with Jesus. In so doing, we can live eternal life in union with Christ. Second, we saints of God are connected with one another. A healthy church is connected with each other by love. It shares life with each other. Modern people live in isolation and disconnection on account of extreme individualism. The church is a place where we overcome such malaise. We serve the same God. We have the same faith. We pursue the same purpose in the church. It is because we are one family connected to one another by the blood of Christ. We must care for those who are left far behind out of the race of faith. We must care for those who are in agony because of heavy burdens in life. We must be a community of love that weeps with those who weep and rejoices with those who rejoice. The power of Jesus’ love on the cross is the source of our love for God and neighbor. Let’s run the race of faith as we strengthen our connections of love with the Lord and neighbors. This is what it means to live by faith.
