출애굽기 39: 이 번 장에서는 제사장을 위한 제복이 만들어짐을 알려 줍니다. 사람들이 완성된 성막을 모세에게 가져오고 모세는 이를 검사합니다.

오늘의 묵상: “여호와께서 모세에게 명하신 대로”

하나님의 명령은 하나님의 복입니다. 순종하면 복이 되고 불순종하면 저주가 됩니다. 순종은 하나님을 사랑하는 것이며 불순종은 그를 대적하는 것입니다. 이것이 언약이 말하는 바입니다. 그런데 문제는 사람들이 “하나님의 명령” 대로 살지 않고 각자의 소견에 옳은 대로 행합니다.

사사 시대에는 각자 소견에 옳은 대로 행하여 타락하였습니다. 여호와께서 모세를 통하여 주신 언약을 버리고 각자의 느낌, 생각, 주장, 세상의 관습을 따라 행한 것입니다. 그런데 이스라엘 백성들은 여호와께서 모세에게 명하신 대로 성막을 만들었습니다. 하나님의 의도를 다 이해하지는 못해도 하나님의 권위를 인정하고 따른 것입니다.

전에는 바로의 압제로 너무 고통스러워 여호와께서 모세를 통해 주신 말씀을 듣지 않았습니다. 금송아지 우상 숭배에 대한 하나님의 용서를 경험한 후에는 성막 공사에서 모두가 하나님의 명령을 중심으로 하나가 되었습니다. 그 결실이 바로 성막 완공 입니다.

오늘날 필요한 것은 하나님의 말씀에 대한 존중입니다. 많은 크리스천이 말씀보다 더 중요한 것은 없다고 고백합니다. 하지만 교회에 문제가 생기면 말씀을 따르지 않고 각자의 느낌을 따라 행합니다. 그래서 많은 교회들이 분열을 겪고 고통스러워 합니다.

하나님 나라의 사역을 할 때는 하나님의 말씀을 따라서 행해야 합니다. 말씀이 고대에 쓰여졌기에 시대에 뒤떨어졌다고 생각하지 말아야 합니다. 기록된 말씀을 전심으로 사랑하며 따라야 합니다. 영원한 말씀이신 예수님의 사랑을 따라 행해야 합니다.

신앙 생활은 하나님의 말씀을 따라 우리 자신, 곧 성령의 전을 지어가는 것입니다. 그리스도의 사랑에 감사하여 말씀을 순종할 때 우리의 인생 집을 반석 위에 세웁니다. 순종의 복된 은혜가 충만하길 기원합니다.

오늘의 묵상 질문  

모세는 여호와의 말씀을 듣고 그대로 이스라엘 백성에게 전달하였습니다. 그렇기에 이스라엘 백성들이 모세를 듣는 것은 여호와를 듣는 것과 같습니다. 우리도 모세가 기록으로 남겨준 그의 말씀을 읽습니다. 그것은 곧 하나님의 말씀입니다. 여러분은 성경을 읽을 때나 성경을 전하는 사람을 들을 때 어떤 자세를 취하십니까? 성경을 듣는 자세가 여러분의 삶에 어떤 영향을 미치고 있는지 생각해 보세요.

심화 묵상 질문

1.      제사장들은 거룩한 옷을 입고 하나님을 예배하였습니다(1절). 아름답고 영광스러운 옷입니다. 옷은 신분을 상징합니다. 마음을 표현합니다. 여러분은 무화과 나무로 만든 옷을 입고 예배하십니까 아니면 그리스도의 의의 옷을 입고 예배하십니까? 왜 그리스도로 옷 입고 하나님을 예배하며 섬겨야 하는지 생각해 보세요.

2.     “여호와께서 모세에게 명하신 대로 하였더라”는 이 번 장에 몇 번 나옵니까? 왜 이렇게 여러 번 기록 하였을까요? 이스라엘 백성들이 여호와의 말씀 대로 성막을 건축하지 않았다면 어떤 작품이 나왔을까요? 하나님의 말씀 대로 행하는 것이 왜 중요한지 묵상해 보세요.

3.     아론은 이스라엘 열 두 지파의 이름이 새겨진 호마노를 에봇 견대에 두어 무엇으로 삼았습니까?(6-7절) 중보자이신 예수님이 여러분을 이름으로 아시며 기억하신다는 진리를 믿으십니까? 이러한 진리가 여러분의 삶에 어떤 영향을 미칩니까? 이러한 진리가 여러분의 예배에 어떤 확신을 줍니까? 이러한 진리가 고난 중에 있는 여러분에게 어떤 위로를 줍니까?

4.     아론은 이스라엘 아들들의 이름을 새긴 열 두 보석을 흉패 앞에 달았습니다. 이것은 대제사장이 하나님 앞에서 그 백성을 대표한다는 것을 상징하였습니다. 보석에 새겼다는 것은 그들의 이름이 지워지지 않는다는 것입니다. 결코 그 백성을 잃어 버리지도 잊지도 않으신다는 것을 보여줍니다. 대제사장이신 그리스도는 우리를 하나님 앞에서 어떻게 대표하는지 생각해 보세요. 그리스도께서 대제사장으로서 우리를 위하여 어떤 중보 사역을 하시는지 묵상해 보세요.

5.     제사장들의 옷은 평상 복과는 다릅니다. 한눈에 보아도 그들이 여호와께 구별된 자들임을 알 수 있습니다. 최고의 재료를 사용하고 최고의 기술을 드려 만든 옷입니다. 그러한 옷을 입고 죄악의 구렁텅이에서 뒹굴 수는 없습니다. 여러분은 그리스도의 의의 옷이 얼마나 값지고 영화로운 것인지를 아십니까? 그 의의 옷이 죄로 더럽혀진 옷과 얼마나 어울리지 않는지 아십니까? 여러분은 그리스도로 옷 입었다는 진리를 여러분의 매일 성화에 어떻게 적용하십니까?

6.     모세가 모든 일이 여호와께서 명하신 대로 이루어 진 것을 보고 그 백성에게 어떻게 하였습니까? (43) 모세는 완성된 일을 검사하고 그 모든 것이 여호와의 명하신 대로 이루어 진 것을 보고 그 백성을 축복하였습니다. 훌륭한 지도자는 맡겨준 일을 돌아보며 잘된 일에 대한 상을 내립니다. 여러분이 어떤 자리에 있든지 의도한 대로 일이 이루어지는 것을 확인하며 그 일을 도운 자들에게 감사하는 것을 잊지 마세요.

7.     모세는 이스라엘 백성이 여호와께서 명하신 대로 순종한 것을 보았습니다. 그리고 이들을 축복하였습니다. 물론 여호와의 이름으로 복을 선언하였을 것입니다. 순종은 하나님의 복입니다. 순종에는 하나님의 복이 따릅니다. 여러분은 자녀와 이웃을 어떻게 축복하십니까? 이들에게 어떤 복이 임하길 기도하십니까?

Exodus 39: The priestly garments are made for Aaron and his sons. The workers have brought Moses the tabernacle and Moses inspects the tabernacle.

Meditation for Today: “As Yahweh had commanded Moses”

God’s command is His blessing. Obedience brings blessing and disobedience brings curse. Obeying God is loving God and disobeying Him is rebelling against Him. This is what the covenant says. But the problem is that people live not according to what God commands but according to what is pleasing in their sight. But during the period of the judges, they went corrupt as they acted according to what’s right in their sight. Abandoning the covenant God had given through Moses, they behaved according to their own feelings, thoughts, arguments, and the customs of the world. But the Israelites made the tabernacle as Yahweh had commanded Moses. Though they didn’t understand everything about God’s intention, they acknowledged and followed God’s authority. In the past, they didn’t listen to the words of Yahweh given through Moses. Having experienced the forgiveness of God for their golden calf idolatry, all of them became one for the construction of the tabernacle around the command of God. Consequently, they were able to complete the tabernacle. What we need today is respecting the word of God. Many Christians say there is nothing more important than the word of God. But when a problem occurs in the church, they follow their own feelings rather than the word. So, a lot of churches have suffered divisions in pain. When we do the work of the kingdom of God, we must do according to the word of God. We must suppose that God’s Word is outdated because it was written in the ancient time. We must love and follow the written word of God with all our hearts. We must act according to the love of Jesus our eternal Word. Our faith life is building the temple of the Holy Spirit, that is, ourselves, according to the word of God. When we obey in gratitude for the love of Christ, we build the house of our life on the Rock. May all of us be filled with the blessed grace of obedience!   

Today’s Question for Reflection

Having listened to the word of Yahweh, Moses delivered it precisely to the people of Israel. So, their hearing from Moses was equal to their hearing from Yahweh. We read the written record Moses has left with us. That is the word of God. What attitude do you bear when you read the Bible or listen to someone’s Bible preaching. Reflect on how your attitude of hearing the Bible affects your life.   

In-depth Questions for Reflection

1.      The priests wore holy attires and worshiped God (v. 1). Those clothes were beautiful and glorious. Clothing represents status. It expresses the heart. Do you worship God with fig-leaves woven clothes on or with the clothes of the righteousness of Christ on? Reflect on why you should worship and serve God by being clothed with Christ.

2.     How many times does the clause “As the LORD had commanded Moses” occur in this chapter? Why do you think it was written numerous times? What kind of product would the Israelites had produced if they had not followed the instructions of Yahweh? Meditate on why it is important to do according to the word of God.   

3.     For what purpose did Aaron bear the onyx stones engraved with the twelve tribes of Israel? (vv. 6-7) Do you believe the truth that Jesus the Mediator knows you by your name and remembers it? How does such truth affect your life? What assurance does it give you in your worship? What comfort does it bring you in suffering?

4.     Aaron had the twelve precious stones, each inscribed with the name of a tribe of Israel, attached on the front of his breastplate. This symbolized how the High Priest represented all the people before God. Their names inscribed on the precious stones wouldn’t be wiped out. It shows that God will never forsake nor forget His people. Think about how Christ our High Priest represents us before God. Meditate on what mediatorial work Christ does for us.

5.     The priestly garments are different from their common clothes. If you see them, you can immediately tell they are consecrated to Yahweh. Their sacred garments are made out of best materials with best skills. No one will wallow in the mud of sin with such clothes on. Do you appreciate how valuable and glorious the clothes of the righteousness of Christ are? Do you know how incongruous those clothes are to sin-soiled clothes? How do you apply to your daily sanctification the truth you are clothed with Christ?   

6.     What did Moses do with the people when he saw the work was done the way God wanted? (v. 43) Moses inspected the finished work, and saw that it was done in the way God commanded, and then blessed the people of Israel. A good leader follows up on assigned tasks and gives rewards for good work. In whatever responsible position you find yourself, follow up to make sure tasks are completed as designed, and express your thanks to the people who have participated.

7.     Moses saw the Israelites obeyed as Yahweh had commanded. Then, he blessed them. Of course, he must have blessed them in the name of Yahweh. Obedience is God’s blessing. God’s blessing follows obedience. How do you bless your children and neighbor? What blessings do you pray for them?
