Stand firm (굳게 서서 )

Philippians 4:1-9

In chapter 4, the Philippian church faced a crisis when a conflict arose between influential leaders of the church. When Paul learned of this, he declared, “Stand firm in the Lord!” Together, we will look at how we can stand firm in Christ in times of hardships and troubles.

빌립보 교회는 영향력 있는 지도자들 간에 싸움으로 위기를 맞이했습니다. 이 두 사람의 다툼을 바울이 알 정도였습니다. 바울은 '굳게 서라'고 말씀합니다. 우리가 왜, 어떻게 굳게 설 수 있는지를 살펴보겠습니다.

We Are People Who Cannot Give Up 우리는 포기하면 안 되는 사람들입니다 (1)

'Stand' is a war term and refers to the state of soldiers being armed for war. Or, it depicts them as racers who must follow the race path marked by the gospel without straying from it.

When the Philippi people read Paul’s message through Epaphroditus, they declared in self-proclamation, “Yes, I must stand firm and not be shaken!” It was as if Paul commanded the people to engage in a spiritual battle (Ephesians 6:13). This is the truth. Whether we admit it or not, we are God’s spiritual warriors. From the moment that we confess and accept the fact that Jesus is our Lord and Savior, we become his “warriors.” As we walk in His name, there will be tough times when we’re spiritually challenged, but we must stand firm. Just like the saying, tap on the stone bridge as you cross, I hope that as you continue on this journey as a warrior of God, you will always run back to Him and find comfort in Him.

'서다' 는 전쟁용어로 군인들이 전쟁을 위하여 무장을 하고 있는 상태입니다. 또는 복음으로 표시된 경주로를 이탈하지 않고 지켜야 하는 경주자로 묘사합니다. 빌립보 성도들은 바울의 편지를 에바브로디도를 통해서 읽혀 질 때에, "그래 나는 굳게 서서 흔들리지 않아야 할 사람이야!" 라고 스스로 자신들을 격려했습니다. 바울이 에베소 성도들에게 영적 전쟁을 싸우라고 한 것과 같은 의미입니다 (엡 6:13). 이것이 진리입니다. 우리가 인정을 하든지 안하든지 분명히 우리는 영적인 전사들입니다. 우리가 예수를 그리스도시며 나의 구원자이시다고 고백하고 주인으로 인정하는 순간 우리는 '전사'입니다. 이제는 나를 군사로 불러주신 하나님의 뜻을 헤아리며 끊임없이 영적인 전쟁을 수행해야 합니다. 우리는 굳게 서야 합니다. 돌다리를 두드리며 건너라는 말처럼 오늘 혼탁한 시대에서 우리의 믿음의 돌다리들을 하나하나 점검하면서 영적인 전쟁을 수행할 준비를 갖추고 굳게 서 있는 전사로 신앙의 여정을 걸어가시기를 바랍니다.

We Must Be In Harmony With Each Other 우리는 서로 조화를 이루어야 합니다 (2-3)

The community of the church is not perfect. Problems arise because the church is filled with imperfect people as Satan attacks our “weak spots” (Genesis 3:15). Instead of an external attack, Satan prevents the church community from living in harmony. However, we can overcome this problem. The Bible tells of two women who couldn’t live in harmony with each other. Despite their differences, however, they preached to embrace each other, supporting and encouraging one another when they made mistakes. Furthermore, In verse 3, we’re introduced to two Gentile Christians, Euodia and Syntyche. Their relationship was so poor that Paul had to intervene, and there was not a single person who didn’t know who they were in the church.

Perhaps at first, the two women weren’t able to come to a consensus and the church was in danger of splitting apart. Paul could have reprimanded them but instead, he praised them for their efforts. And by “efforts,” he means just like how fighters put their lives on the line when they fight in rings, these women fought just as hard with their battle against Satan. Despite their differences, they never lost sight of God. Therefore, do not rebuke but reconcile with your old heart, and serve the Lord and the church with that same heart. The church is a community where people from all backgrounds gather to worship together, and where the grace of the Holy Spirit is at work.

교회는 문제가 항상 있는 공동체입니다. 그 이유는 불완전 한 사람들이 있기 때문이고 사단은 사람들의 약한 부분을 공격합니다 (창 3:15). 사단은 교회 공동체가 조화를 이루지 못하도록 합니다. 외부적인 공격보다. 내 부적인 공격을 시도합니다. 우리는 이 문제를 해결 할 수 있습니다. 조화롭지 못한 두 여인을 소개 하고 있습니다. 당사자인 이들에게는 In Harmony 라고 번역 된 '같은 마음을 품으라'와 성도들에게는 이들을 '도와주라'고 합니다. 이들을 탓하거나 잘 잘못을 드러내어는 것이 아니라 서로 격려하여 조화를 이루도록 도와주는 것입니다. ‘유오디아와 '순두게'는 이방인 그리스도인입니다. 이들의 다툼이 바울에게 들릴 정도로 심각 했고 3절에서 바울은 이들을 공개적으로 도와주려고 합니다. 교회 안에서 이들은 유명했고 모르는 사람이 없을 정도였습니다.

아마도 두 여인이 의견의 일치를 볼 수가 없었고 따라서 교회는 편이 갈려 분열될 위험에 처해 있었습니다. 이런 분위기라면, 바울은 이들을 공개적으로 책망해도 상관없지만 도리어 이들을 칭찬합니다. 이들은 ‘나와 함께 애썼다’고 말합니다. '애썼다'말은 이 여인들이 ‘클레멘트’Clement 와 다른 ‘동역자’들과 함께 경기장에서 목숨 걸고 싸우듯이 복음을 위해서 사단과 싸웠고, 바울의 일을 도울 때는 고난도 감수했다는 뜻입니다. 두 여인이 얼마나 하나님 나라의 일꾼들인지를 칭찬합니다. 그러므로 너희들도 책망하지 말고 예전의 마음을 가지고 화해하고 같은 마음으로 하나님을 섬기고 교회를 봉사하도록 도와주라고 합니다. 교회는 서로의 다름이 하나를 이루어 내는 공동체입니다. 교회는 성령 하나님이 이루어 가시는 조화의 예술이 있는 곳입니다.

We will meet again in heaven.우리는 하늘에서 만날 사람들입니다. (3)

The names of the two women, Clement, and his co-workers in verse 3 are all recorded in the Book of Life. The people who are written in this Book of Life will all go to heaven. The image of them in harmony with one another, rejoicing in the Word, and living in his presence should give us comfort and peace when we’re facing hardships in this world. Look up to Him and times of trouble because He will always provide.

3절에서 복음에 함께 애썼든 여 집사들과 클레멘트와 동역자들의 이름이 생명책에 기록되어 있다고 합니다. 생명책에 기록된 자들은 다 천국으로 갈 사람들입니다. 하늘에서 만날 사람들 끼리 조화를 이루며 도우며 살아가는 것은 험한 세상에서 큰 위로가 됩니다.

We are the soldiers who stand firm and guard the kingdom of God, and the saints who strive for harmony within the community. I hope that with the gifts of grace that each of us have received, our church will continue to grow and sing in harmony together.

우리는 굳게 서서 하나님의 나라를 지켜가는 군사이고, 공동체의 조화를 이루어 가야 할 성도들입니다. 각자가 받은 은혜의 은사대로 사단이 교회를 노략질 하지 못하도록 같은 마음으로 하모니를 이루는 교회가 되기를 소원합니다.
