무엇이 우리의 마음을 지배하는가?(What controls our hearts?)

마음은 우리 삶을 통제하는 센터입니다. 사고, 느낌, 결정과 같은 내적 활동이 일어나는 장소입니다. 또한 기도, 예배, 섬김과 같은 영적 활동이 일어나는 장소입니다. 마음이 보이지 않고 만져지지도 않지만 실재합니다. 마음은 물질 세계와 영적 세계와 교류합니다. 환경, 행동, 사람, 뉴스, 이데올로기, 철학 등의 영향을 늘 받습니다. 보이는 세계가 우리 삶에 영향을 미치는 모든 것은 아닙니다. 보이지 않는 세계도 우리에게 영향을 미칩니다. 삶에서 감정, 결정, 활동은 이 두 세계와의 교류를 통하여 빗어진 결과입니다. 하지만 어떤 이들은 초자연적인 세계의 존재를 부인하며 자연 세계가 전부라고 가정합니다. 다른 이들은 물질 세계는 초자연적인 세계의 보이지 않는 존재들의 지배를 받는다고 믿습니다. 그래서 질병, 재난에 대한 두려움을 통제하려고 별, 돌, 조상, 천사, 초자연적인 존재 등을 예배합니다. 자연과 초자연 세계의 모든 것을 지으신 유일하신 하나님이 존재한다는 것을 믿지 않습니다. 하나님은 만물의 통치자입니다. 예수님은 풍랑과 파도를 꾸짖으시고 잠잠케 하셨습니다. 또한 귀신 군단을 꾸짖으시고 돼지 떼로 쫓아내셨습니다. 이러한 사실들은 그분이 자연 세계와 초자연 세계를 통치하시는 분임을 보여줍니다. 우리는 마음을 열고 이분을 모셔 드려야 합니다. 그리하여 그분과 함께 하는 풍성한 삶을 살아야 합니다. 우리의 마음을 예수님 혹은 사탄에게 여느냐 에 따라 우리의 운명이 결정됩니다. 그러므로 예수님을 우리의 마음과 삶으로 맞이하는 것보다 더 중요한 일은 없습니다. 우리 마음의 영적 상태의 중요성은 아무리 강조해도 지나치지 않습니다. 그런데 우리는 종종 우리 마음의 영적 상태를 간과하거나 소홀히 합니다. 소수의 사람만이 자신의 마음이 바른 상태에 있는지를 매일 점검합니다. 성경적으로 마음의 바른 상태는 예수님이 그 마음의 보좌에 좌정하셔서 그 삶을 인도하시는 상태를 말합니다. 우리 마음은 성령과 마귀의 영적 전쟁터입니다. 우리는 악 대신 선한 것을 택해야 합니다. 우리의 마음을 악한 자에게 내어준다면 우리는 그의 점령과 다스림을 받게 될 것입니다. 그러면 우리 삶은 약탈을 당하고 황폐해질 것입니다.  거라사의 귀신 들린 자 이야기는 이러한 점을 잘 보여줍니다. 우리는 결코 악한 영들을 우리 마음과 삶으로 환영해 드려서는 안됩니다. 악한 영들은 광명한 천사로 가장할 수 있습니다. 행복을 약속하지만 실은 그리스도 안에 있는 자유, 바른 정신, 풍성한 삶을 빼앗아가려 합니다. 우리는 절대로 우리 마음에서 이들에게 어떤 거점도 내주어서는 안됩니다. 우리 마음에서 단호하게 악한 것들을 배척하고 주 예수 그리스도로 충만해야 합니다. 진실로 예수님은 우리를 하나님과 함께 하는 풍성한 삶으로 회복시키는 주님이십니다. 

The heart is the control center of one’s life. It is the seat of all inner activities such as thinking, feeling, and deciding. Also, it is the seat of spiritual activities such as praying, worshiping, and serving. Even though it is invisible and intangible, the heart is real, interacting with and reacting to both the physical world and the spiritual world. It is constantly influenced by circumstances, actions, people, news, ideologies, philosophies, etc. The visible world is not everything that makes impact on how one lives. The invisible world affects us, too. One’s emotions, decisions, and actions in life are the outcomes of one’s interactions with both worlds. But some assume the physical world is everything they have, denying the existence of the supernatural world. Others believe that the physical world is controlled by invisible beings in the supernatural world. So, they try to control fear of diseases or disasters by worshiping stars, rocks, ancestors, angels, or supernatural beings. They do not believe there is only one God who created all things, both natural and supernatural. God is the Ruler of all things. Jesus rebuked the tempest and the waves to calm them. Also, He rebuked the legion of demons and cast them out into the pigs. These facts demonstrate the truth that He is the Ruler over both the natural and the supernatural worlds. We must open our hearts and receive Him into our hearts so that we can live an abundant life with Him. To which one we open our hearts, Jesus or Satan, determines our destinies. There is nothing more important and urgent than to welcome Jesus into our hearts and lives. We can’t emphasize enough the importance of spiritual conditions of our hears. However, we often overlook or neglect the spiritual conditions of our hearts. Only a few examine their hearts daily to see whether or not their hearts are in a right condition. Biblically speaking, a right condition of one’s heart refers to the state that Jesus sits on the throne of one’s heart and guides his or her life. Our heart is a spiritual battlefield between the Holy Spirit and the devil. We have to choose the good rather than the evil. If we surrender our hearts to the evil one, we will be seized and controlled by the evil one. Then, our lives will be plundered and devasted. The narrative of the demon-possessed man in Gerasa illustrates the point well. We must never welcome evil spirits into our hearts and lives. Evil spirits may masquerade themselves as the angels of light. Promising us happiness, they indeed try to take away our freedom, right mind, and abundant life in Christ. We should never give them a foothold in our hearts. Rather, we must fill our hearts with the Lord Jesus Christ while resolutely rejecting evil things. Indeed, Jesus is the Lord who restores us into an abundant life with God.
