자유 의지(Free will)

하나님은 자신의 형상을 따라 사람을 만드시고 자유 의지를 선물로 주셨습니다. 아담은 입력된 대로 행하는 로봇이 아니라 스스로 선택하고 결정할 수 있는 사람입니다. 그는 그의 지력을 사용하여 동물들에게 맞는 이름을 선택해 주었습니다. 자유 의지는 선택의 자유를 뜻합니다. 만약 아담이 스스로 선택할 수 있는 자유가 없었다면 속박되고 억압된 삶을 살았을 것입니다. 하나님은 아담을 사랑하셔서 그에게 자유 의지를 주셨습니다. 그리고 아담이 자유 의지를 사용하여 거룩하고 행복한 삶을 살기를 원하셨습니다. 아담은 처음에 자발적으로 하나님을 순종하고 예배하며 그분과 교제하였습니다. 그런데 뱀의 유혹을 받고 그의 자유 의지를 금지된 선악과를 선택하는데 사용합니다. 그는 하나님 말씀보다 뱀의 거짓을 믿기로 선택한 것입니다. 결과적으로 그는 하나님이 된 것이 아니라 죄인들의 조상이 됩니다. 반면에 둘째 아담이신 그리스도는 자유 의지를 하나님의 뜻을 선택하는 데 사용하셨습니다. 광야에서 시험을 받을 때 돌들을 떡으로 만들어 허기진 배를 채우는데 자유 의지를 사용하지 않았습니다. 오히려 그 아버지의 뜻에 순복하는데 사용하셨습니다. 선물로 받은 그의 자유 의지를 선물로 아버지께 다시 돌려 드린 것입니다. 이것은 최고의 헌신입니다. 하나님 아버지는 그렇게 하도록 그 아들을 강요하지 않았습니다. 첫 아담은 그의 자유 의지로 하나님의 말씀을 어기고 독립하려 했습니다. 하지만 둘째 아담은 그의 자유 의지로 하나님을 순종하고 의지하였습니다. 하나님은 우리에게도 자유의지를 선물로 주셨습니다. 우리에게는 선과 악, 하나님과 사탄, 천국과 지옥, 하나님 나라와 세상 나라, 순종과 불순종 중 하나를 선택할 자유가 있습니다. 하나님의 은혜가 아니면 우리는 모두 후자를 선택할 것입니다. 왜냐하면 우리의 자유 의지는 악을 향하여 굽어 있기 때문입니다. 오늘날 사람들은 이를 부인하며 자유 의지를 신격화 합니다. 우리의 자유 의지가 바른 선택을 하려면 하나님의 은혜를 필요로 합니다. 하나님은 그의 전적인 은혜로 우리를 구원하셨습니다. 그리고 우리의 자유 의지를 하나님 쪽으로 향하게 하셨습니다. 하나님은 선을 택하라고 우리를 강요하지 않습니다. 우리의 자유 의지는 자유 합니다. 또한 죄 쪽으로 돌아가려는 성향이 남아 있습니다. 죄의 악영향으로부터 자유 하지 못합니다. 이러한 현실을 깨닫고 하나님께 우리 의지를 새롭게 하여 선을 택하도록 하나님의 능하신 은혜를 의지해야 합니다. 하나님과 이웃을 사랑하는데 우리의 자유 의지를 행사해야 합니다. 우리의 자유 의지를 하나님께 제물로 바치는 것은 우리의 최선을 하나님께 바치는 것입니다. 우리 모두 우리의 뜻을 하나님의 뜻에 맞추는데 우리의 자유 의지를 자유롭게 행사합시다. 

God made man according to His image and gave him the gift of free will. Adam was a pre-programmed robot, but a man of free choice and decision. He used his intellectual power and chose the names suitable for animals. Free will is a freedom of choice. If he had not had freedom of choice, Adam had lived a life of bondage and oppression. Because He loved Adam, God gave Him free will. He wanted him to use his free will to live a holy and happy life. At first, Adam voluntarily obeyed, worshiped, and had a fellowship with God. But when he was tempted by the serpent, Adam used his free will to choose to take the forbidden fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. He chose to believe the lie of the serpent rather than the word of God. As a result, he became not God, but the father of sinners. On the contrary, Christ the Second Adam used His free will to choose God’s will. When He was tempted in the wilderness, He refused to use His free will to turn the stones into loaves of bread to fill his empty stomach. Rather, He used them to submit to His Father. He turned the gift of His free will back to the Father as a gift. This was the highest devotion. The Father didn’t coerce His Son into doing it. The First Adam exercised his free will to disobey the word of God and try to declare his independence from God. But the Second Adam exercised His free will to obey and rely on God. God has gifted us with free will, too. We have the freedom to choose between good and evil, God and Satan, heaven and hell, the kingdom of God and the kingdom of the world, obedience and disobedience, and so on. Apart from the grace of God, we will choose the latter, for our free will is bent toward evil. Denying this reality, people today deify their free will. To make a right choice with our free will, we need God’s grace. God has saved us by His sheer grace. He has set our free will toward Himself. God doesn’t force us to choose good. Our free will is free. Also, it has its remaining tendency to return toward sin. It is not free from sin’s evil influences. Realizing such reality, we must rely on God’s enabling grace whereby God renews our will so that we choose good. We should exercise our free will to love God and neighbor. Offering our free will to God is equal to offering our best to God. Let’s freely exercise our free will for the adjustment of our will to God’s will.
