말씀의 옷장을 열어 복음을 입히다(Opening the wardrobe of Word and getting people clothed with the gospel)

몇일 전에 비홀드 출판사에서 신간 책을 선물로 받았습니다. 책 제목은 “말씀의 옷장을 열어 복음을 입히다”입니다. 이 책은 퍼스널 스타일리스트인 저자 오한나 자매님의 복음 전도서입니다. 저자는 이 책을 통하여 복음의 옷이 어떤 것인지를 설명합니다. 책은 세 부분으로 나뉩니다: 칭의의 옷, 성화의 옷, 영화의 옷. 저자는 사람들에게 맞는 옷을 권장하고 이미지 변신을 돕는 일을 합니다. 옷은 단순히 몸을 가리고 치장하는 수단이 아닙니다. 옷은 정체성과 직결되어 있습니다. 사람들은 의상을 통하여 자신이 누군인지를 표현하려 합니다. 옷은 사람들의 성격, 신분, 취향, 직업 등을 보여줍니다. 저자는 겉옷만 바꾸는 것으로는 사람들이 진정한 행복을 얻지 못한다는 점을 발견하였습니다. “나는 누구인가?” “나는 왜 이곳에 있는가?” “나는 무엇을 위해 존재하는가”를 모르면 아무리 자기에게 맞고 좋은 옷을 입어도 변하지 않습니다. 저자는 최초의 패션 디자이너가 하나님인 것을 성경을 통하여 발견하였습니다. 하나님은 그 형상과 모양을 따라 아담과 하와를 지으시고 의와 존귀와 위엄으로 입혀 주셨습니다. 그런데 이들은 뱀의 꼬임에 넘어가 선악과를 따먹고 말았습니다. 죄에 떨어지는 순간 자신들이 벗은 것을 깨닫고 수치를 느꼈습니다. 그래서 무화과 나무 잎을 엮어 자신들의 수치를 가려 보려 했습니다. 하지만 하나님은 이들에게 가죽 옷을 입혀 이들의 수치를 가려 주셨습니다. 이것은 예수 그리스도의 십자가 대속을 보여주는 것입니다. 그리스도를 믿고 회개하며 하나님을 영접한 자들은 그리스도로 옷을 입게 됩니다. 이것이 칭의의 옷입니다. 하나님이 죄와 사망의 옷을 벗기시고 그리스도의 의의 옷을 입혀 주시는 것입니다. 이렇게 그리스도로 옷 입은 자들은 실생활에서 의와 거룩함을 따라 행합니다. 사탄은 이들이 죄의 넝마 옷을 입고 살도록 유혹합니다. 하지만 그리스도의 의의 왕복을 입은 자들은 다시금 죄의 넝마 옷을 입지 않습니다. 오히려 그리스도의 군복으로 무장하고 하나님 나라를 위해 싸웁니다. 성령 안에서 옛 사람을 벗고 새사람을 입습니다. 신랑 되신 그리스도의 재림을 기다리며 부활 때 세마포 옷 입을 것을 소망합니다. 어린 양의 혼인 잔치에서 주님과 영원히 즐거워 할 것을 고대합니다. 저자는 이렇게 복음의 옷을 묘사하며 그리스도를 구주로 믿고 하나님의 선물인 그리스도로 옷을 입을 것을 권면합니다. 창세기 가족 옷에서 시작하여 요한계시록 세마포 옷으로 맺습니다. 이 책은 복음 안에 나타난 그리스도의 은혜와 사랑을 맛볼 수 있도록 도와줍니다. 

Several days ago, I received a book as a gift, newly published by Behold. The title of the book is Opening the Wardrobe of Word and Getting people clothed with the Gospel. This book is about the gospel of salvation, written by Ms. Hanna Oh, a personal stylist. The author explains throughout the whole book what the gospel is all about. The book is divided into three parts: Garments of justification, Garments of sanctification, and Garments of glorification. Her job is to recommend her customers clothes suitable for them and help them change their images. Clothes are not merely a means to cover and adorn people. It is directly tied to identity. People intend to express who they are through their dress. Their clothes show their personalities, social standings, likings, careers, etc. The author found out people don’t find happiness by simply changing their attires. No matter how they cover themselves with fit and proper clothes, they don’t really change without knowing, “Who am I?”, Why am I here?”, or For what am I here?”. The author came to know from the Bible that God was the first Fashion Designer. God made Adam and Eve according to His image and likeness and clothed them with righteousness, honor, and dignity. But they took the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, being deceived by the serpent. As soon as they fell into sin, they felt ashamed, realizing they were naked. So, they sewed the fig-tree leaves and tried to cover their shame. But God clothed them with the garments of skin to cover their shame. This typifies the vicarious atonement of Jesus Christ on the cross. Whoever repents and believes in Christ will be clothed with Christ. This is called the garments of justification. God takes off the garments of sin and death from believers and clothe them with the garments of Christ’s righteousness. Those clothed with Christ walk in their lives according to righteousness and holiness. Satan tempts them to live in rags of sin. But those clothed with the royal robe of Christ’s righteousness don’t clothe themselves with rags of sin again. Rather, they arm themselves with the panoply of Christ and fight for the kingdom of God. They put off the old man and put on the new man in the Holy Spirit. Waiting for the return of Christ their Bridegroom, they hope in being clothed with fine linen in the day of resurrection. They look forward to rejoicing with the Lord forever in the marriage supper of the Lamb. Describing the robe of the gospel this way, the author exhorts her readers to believe Christ as their Savior and take the gift of God, that is, being clothed with Christ. She begins with the garments of skin in Genesis and ends with the fine linen in Revelation. This book helps to taste the grace and love of Christ revealed in the gospel.
