참된 배움(True Learning)

참된 배움은 좋은 관계 가운데서 이루어집니다. 선생님과 관계가 좋지 않으면 배움은 지장을 받습니다. 신앙 교육도 마찬가지입니다. 예수님과 관계가 좋지 않으면 참된 배움은 일어나지 않습니다. 기독교 교육의 궁극적인 목적이 예수님 닮기라는 점을 고려할 때 그분과의 바른 관계는 참된 배움에 필수적입니다. 예수님은 우리의 구원자이실 뿐만 아니라 우리의 참된 선생님이십니다. 우리는 예수님으로부터 하나님에 대하여 배우며 그분과의 바른 관계 속에서 그분을 닮아가야 합니다. 예수님은 산상 설교의 결론에서 그분의 말씀을 듣고 행하는 자를 집을 반석 위에 세운 지혜자에 비유하셨습니다. 참된 배움, 곧 예수님을 닮으려면 예수님의 주인 되심을 받아 드려야 합니다. 그러기 위해서는 세 가지를 실천해야 합니다. 첫째, 예수님을 경외해야 합니다. 예수님이 설교를 마치셨을 때 사람들은 그의 가르침에 압도되었습니다. 많은 이들이 그를 목수의 아들로 무시하였습니다. 나사렛 변방 출신이라고 배척하였습니다. 그런데 그의 가르침은 하늘의 음성과 같이 신적 권위가 있었습니다. 그래서 그의 지혜, 말씀 지식, 비유, 적용, 명령에 놀랐습니다. 이것은 그에 대한 경외감이었습니다.  예수님의 주님 되심에 대한 존경, 경외심은 그를 닮도록 우리의 마음에 동기를 제공합니다. 오늘날은 예수님과의 친밀감만을 지나치게 강조하는 경향이 있습니다. 예수님에 대하여 너무 익숙한 나머지 그에 대한 경외감을 잃어버렸습니다. 예수님을 닮으려면 그분이 하나님이신 것을 기억하며 그분에 대한 경외심을 회복해야 합니다. 둘째, 예수님께 순복해야 합니다. 예수님은 우리에게 신적 권위자이십니다. 그의 가르침은 서기관들의 것과 같지 않았습니다. 그의 권위를 무시하는 것은 그 위에 우리의 권위를 휘두르는 반역입니다. 요즘은 많은 학생들이 선생님들의 권위를 헌신짝처럼 무시합니다. 수업 시간에는 잠을 자고 학원에서 공부합니다. 이들은 성공을 위한 지식을 습득할 뿐입니다. 결국은 인성 교육은 무시하기에 인격자가 되지 못합니다. 예수님을 닮는 것이 참된 인성 교육입니다. 그분의 권세 아래 자신의 주장, 의견, 기분, 의지를 내려 놓고 그분의 뜻을 순종해야 합니다. 이것이 없으면 인생의 집을 모래 위에 짓는 어리석은 자와 같습니다. 마지막으로 예수님을 따라가야 합니다. 예수님의 설교를 듣고 허다한 무리가 그분을 따른 것은 잘한 것입니다. 하지만 그 중에 골로다까지 따라간 자는 소수입니다. 그분의 닮는 것은 그분의 가신 길을 따르는 것입니다. 사실 예수님이 우리 인생 여정의 인도자이십니다. 예수님은 광야 방랑기를 통하여 이스라엘 백성을 인도한 구름 기둥과 불 기둥과 같습니다. 그분의 인도하는 곳으로 가고 그분이 머무는 곳에 머무는 것이 가장 안전합니다. 그분을 따르는 것은 무거운 짐을 지는 것이 아니라 그분과의 행복한 동행입니다. 그분과 동행은 그분을 배우고 닮는 최고의 시간입니다. 예수님을 경외하고 순복하며 따를 때 진정으로 참된 제자의 삶을 살게 됩니다. 행복한 하나님 나라의 시민은 이와 같습니다. 

True learning takes place in the context of a good relationship. If we have a bad relationship with our teachers, our learning will be hindered. It is the same with spiritual education. If our relationship to Jesus is estranged or bad, we can’t obtain true learning. Considering the ultimate purpose of Christian education is to imitate the character of Jesus, a right relationship with Jesus is necessary for true learning. Jesus is not only our Savior, but also our true Teacher. We should learn from Jesus about God and imitate Jesus in the context of a relationship with Jesus. While concluding the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus compares those hearing and doing His Word to a wise builder who builds his house on the rock. For the sake of true learning, that is, imitating Jesus, we must accept the lordship of Jesus. To do so, we must practice the following. First, we should fear Jesus. When he finished His Sermon on the Mount, the crowds were overwhelmed at His teaching. Many ignored him as a carpenter’s son. They rejected Him because He came from the countryside of Nazareth. But His instructions were like a voice from heaven having the divine authority. So, the crowds were amazed at His wisdom, knowledge of the word, parables, applications, and commands. They felt awe of Jesus. Respect and awe for the lordship of Jesus essential for imitating motivates us to imitate Jesus. Today, there is a tendency of overemphasis on intimacy with Jesus. Overfamiliarity with Jesus has cost us awe of Jesus. To imitate Jesus, we must recover a sense of awe of Jesus while remembering Jesus is God. Second, we should submit to Jesus. Jesus is the divine authority for us. He was unlike religious teachers of the law. Disregarding His authority is equal to a rebellion of the wielding of our authority over Him. These days, many students reject the authority of their teachers like worn-out shoes. They sleep during class and study at other private teaching institutions. They only obtain knowledge for success. After all, they fail to be people of character because they disregard education for character building. Imitating Jesus is a true character building. We should obey His will by placing our arguments, opinions, moods, and wills under His authority. Without it, we are like a foolish person who builds the house of his life on the sand. Lastly, we must follow Jesus. It was good for great crowds, having heard His sermon, to follow Him. But only a small few out of them followed Jesus unto Golgotha. Imitating Him is following the way He walked on. Indeed, Jesus is the Guide in our life journey. Jesus is like the pillars of cloud and fire that had guided the Israelites through the wilderness wanderings. Most secure are going anywhere He leads us, and staying anywhere He stays. Following Him is not bearing a heavy burden, but delightful walking with Him. Walking with Him is a best time of learning and imitating Him. We can truly live a life of discipleship when we fear, submit to, and follow Jesus. Such are the happy citizens of the kingdom of God.
