탁구 친교 (Ping-Pong Fellowship)

오늘은 베트남 축복 침례 교회와 탁구 친교가 있습니다. 우리는4년 전에 현재의 교회 건물을 그 교회에서 구입하였습니다. 은혜 교회는 그 때 이후로 베트남 교회와 교제를 나누었습니다. 그 전까지 우리는 그들의 존재에 대하여 아무 것도 몰랐습니다. 하지만 교회 건물 매입을 통하여 그들을 알게 되었습니다. 이들은 우리 교회의 형편을 알고 교회 건물 매입 가격을 깎아 주기도 했습니다. 우리 교회 입당 예배 때 베트남 교회에서 여러분이 참여하여 헌금도 해주시고 격려의 말도 해 주셨습니다. 함께 친교 식사를 나누며 좋은 시간을 가졌습니다. 그 후에 베트남 교회는 우리를 그들의 교회 창립 기념 예배에 초청해 주었습니다. 우리 교회에서 몇 분이 참석하였습니다. 예배 중에 통역이 없어 알아들을 수가 없었습니다. 하지만 이들이 모임 중에 기뻐하는 모습을 보는 것은 즐거운 경험이었습니다. 우리는 모임 후에 성대한 친교 식사를 나누었습니다. 시간이 흐르고 얼마 후에 우리는 베트남 교회와 축구와 탁구 친교를 나누었습니다. 우리 교회에는 젊은 청년들이 많아서 축구를 이길 줄 알았는데 10대 3으로 지고 말았습니다. 우리보다 훨씬 축구를 잘했습니다. 탁구도 우리 교회 팀보다 잘 하였습니다. 유동희 박사님이 유일하게 게임을 이기고 전체 2등을 하였습니다. 유 박사님은 이번 주 목요일에 애리조나 피닉스로 이주하십니다. 오늘 행사가 마지막 행사가 될 것입니다. 그래서 기억할 만한 시간이 될 것입니다. 유 박사님은 교회 건물 매입을 주관하셨고 베트남 교회 분들과 친교 대회도 주선하셨습니다. 물론 이번 대회도 주선하셨습니다. 오늘 시합을 이기는 것이 중요한 것이 아닙니다. 중요한 것은 예수 그리스도를 구주로 믿고 섬기는 자들이 교제하는 것입니다. 국적과 문화는 다르지만 우리는 다 같이 하나님의 자녀들입니다. 건물 매입이 아니었다면 이분들과는 아무런 교제를 나누지 않았을 것입니다. 가끔 씩이긴 하지만 서로 교통할 수 있다는 것이 큰 기쁨이 아닐 수 없습니다. 이번 대회에는 이충석 집사님이 탁구를 잘 치기에 저번처럼 지지는 않을 것 같습니다. 서로 땀을 흘리며 탁구를 치고 친교 할 수 있다는 것이 기대가 됩니다. 그리스도 안에서 사랑과 우정을 나눌 수 있는 지체들이 있다는 것이 감사할 뿐입니다. 주님도 우리가 이렇게 서로 믿음의 우정을 나누는 것을 기뻐하실 것입니다. 베트남 교회와 우리 교회에 주님의 은혜가 가득하길 기원합니다. 모두에게 기쁨 가득한 친교의 시간이 되길 소망하며…

Today, we have a table tennis fellowship with Vietnamese Blessing Baptist Church. About four years ago, we purchased our current church building from that church. Since then, our Grace Church has enjoyed Christian fellowship with the Vietnamese church. Before that time, we knew nothing about that church. But we came to know them by purchasing our church building. They knew our financial difficulties and gave us a good discount for the building. When we held our first-entrance special service, several from the Vietnamese church came to celebrate it with us, made a contribution to our church, and offered us a word of encouragement. We had a great time of fellowship with them around the table. Afterwards, they invited us to their founding anniversary service. A few of us attended it. We couldn’t understand because there was no translation offered for us during the service. However, it was a pleasant experience for us to watch them rejoicing in their service. After the service, we enjoyed a great fellowship meal with them. In the course of time, we had a fellowship with them through soccer and ping-pong matches. We thought we would win in a soccer match with them because we had a lot of young people. But we lost by 10-3. They were much better than us in soccer. Also, they defeated our ping-pong team. Dr. Dong-hee Ryu alone won a few games. He was the second best in the whole tournament. On this coming Thursday, Dr. Ryu will be moving to Phenix, Arizona. Today’s match will be a final event for him. So, it is a memorable time for him. Dr. Ryu was in charge of the whole process of purchasing our church building. Also, he has arranged our fellowship matches with them. Of course, he has arranged everything for today’s event. What matters today is not winning. What matter is those who believe and serve Jesus Christ as Savior have a fellowship with one another. Though we differ from them in nationality and culture, all of us are the same children of God. Without having purchased the building from them, we would not have had any fellowship with them. Though every now and then, our communion with them brings us great joy. Since brother Rock Lee is good at ping-pong, it seems that we won’t lose today as we lost last time. I am looking forward to having a fellowship with them as we sweat over ping-pong matches. I am so grateful that we have others with whom we can share love and friendship in Christ. The Lord will rejoice in our sharing in a mutual friendship of faith.
