졸업: 새로운 시작(Graduation: New Beginning)

은혜 교회는 개척 때부터 청년/대학부가 교회의 중요한 사역이었습니다. 우리는 매년 졸업생이 있었습니다. 올해도 대학생 2명이 졸업했습니다. 요즘은 졸업식을 중요하게 여기지 않는 경향이 있습니다. 하지만 졸업식은 중요한 예식입니다. 이 예식을 통하여 지난 세월의 노력을 기억하고 감사하는 시간이기 때문입니다. 사실은 수많은 학생들이 입학은 하지만 졸업하지 못하고 중도에 포기합니다. 졸업을 한다는 것은 여러 어려움을 극복하고 마친다는 의미가 있습니다. 저도 대학 졸업할 때가 기억납니다. 여름학기에 남은 학점을 이수하는 조건으로 졸업식 행진을 할 수 있었습니다. 그래서 2달 동안은 여름학기를 택하고 나머지 기간은 학교에서 일을 했습니다. 곧이어 목회학 석사 과정을 시작하였습니다. 저는 한 과정을 마치고 새로운 시작을 한다는 것에 신이 났습니다. 시작한 것을 마친 것은 모두 하나님의 은혜였습니다. 하나님은 졸업하기에 필요한 모든 것을 여러 방법을 통하여 채워 주시는 분이셨습니다. 그래서 졸업을 하면서 내가 얼마나 노력했는가 보다는 하나님이 어떻게 도우셨는지를 생각하게 되었습니다. 하나님의 도우심이 없었다면 졸업도 없었을 것이라고 느낄 수 있었습니다. 이번에 졸업한 요석이와 성은이에게 축하의 말을 전합니다. 먼저 이들에게 정말 수고 많았다고 등을 토닥여 주고 싶습니다. 그리고 주님의 이름으로 축복해 주고 싶습니다. 이제 새로운 단계로 도약하려 숨 고르기를 하고 있습니다. 그 동안 배운 것을 마음껏 활용해 보길 기도합니다. 졸업은 인생의 한 장을 마침과 동시에 새로운 장을 시작하는 것입니다. 주님께서 열어 주신 미래를 향하며 믿음으로 도약하길 기도합니다. 이들의 미래는 주님의 주권 아래 있습니다. 주님은 이들에게 새로운 기회를 주십니다. 이들이 인생의 방향을 바르게 설정하고 기회를 활용하길 기도할 뿐입니다. 졸업이 거창한 미래를 약속해 주지는 않습니다. 많은 청년들이 졸업 후에도 원하는 직장을 얻지 못하고 방황하고 있는 것이 현실입니다. 하지만 하나님은 이들 졸업 후의 미래를 알고 계십니다. 하나님은 여전히 요석이와 성은의 미래에 주인이 되십니다. 주님이 이들을 인도하시는 곳에서 여전히 주님을 섬기기를 기원합니다. 정확하게 어디로 가며 무엇을 해야 할지를 모를 수도 있습니다. 하지만 중요한 것은 무엇을 하든 그것을 통하여 하나님의 일을 하는 것입니다. 그리고 사회에서 필요한 부분을 담당하는 것입니다. 이들의 새로운 시작에 하나님이 힘과 지혜를 주실 것입니다. 하나님이 이들 삶의 목적 됨을 늘 기억하며 그분과 함께 새로운 인생의 새로운 장을 열길 우리 모두 기도합시다. 

Since its planting, College and Career Group has been an important ministry of Grace Church. We have had graduating students every year. We have two students who have graduated this year. These days, people tend to disregard graduation ceremony. However, commencement is an important ceremony, which offers a time to remember all efforts of the past and give thanks. In fact, a great number of students enter college but quit in the course of time without graduating. Graduation implies completing after overcoming a lot of hardships. I still remember my university commencement. I was allowed to march in the commencement on the condition that I should complete all the remaining courses during summer school. So, I took summer courses and then worked for the remaining summer. Soon afterwards, I started my Master of Divinity courses. I was so excited that I had completed the entire course of a major and made a new beginning. Having completed what I began was God’s grace. God has supplied me with all needed for graduation through various means. As I graduated, I thought of how God had helped me rather than how hard I had tried. I felt as if there had been no graduation for me without God. I would like say, “Congratulations!” to Yo-seok and Sung-eun who have recently graduated. Above all, I would like to pat on their backs for all their efforts they had made for graduation. Also, I would like to bless them in the name of the Lord. Now they are preparing themselves for a new stage in their lives. I pray that they will heartily utilize all they have learned so far. Graduation means a completion of a chapter in life and a beginning of another chapter as well. I pray that they step into a future by faith that the Lord opens up for them. Their future is under the Lord’s sovereign control. The Lord will provide them with new opportunities. I pray that they will set a direction of life aright and make use of opportunities. Graduation won’t promise them a huge future. In reality, a lot of young people, even after graduation, wander around without finding their wishful jobs. But God knows the future after their graduation. God is still the Lord over the future of Yo-seok and Sung-eun. I wish they continue to serve the Lord at any places they may lead them. They may not know exactly where to go and what to do. But what matters is their doing the work of God through all that they do. And they serve a part needed in society. God will give them strength and wisdom for their new beginnings. Let’s all pray that they open the new chapter of their lives with God, always remembering God is the purpose of their lives!
