이삭 줍기 코인 데이(Gleaning Coin Day)

하나님은 수확 때에 가난한 자나 나그네를 위해서 곡식이나 열매를 남겨두어 그들이  양식으로 쓸 수 있게 했습니다. 이런 것을 모으는 것을 이삭줍기라고 합니다. “너희 땅의 곡물을 벨 때에 밭 모퉁이까지 다 베지 말며 떨어진 것을 줍지 말고 그것을 가난한 자와 거류민을 위하여 남겨두라 나는 너희의 하나님 여호와이니라”(레23:22). 이와 같이 우리의 작은 도움이 누군가의 필요를 채우게 된다면 그것은 하나님의 뜻을 실천하는 것이요 가난한 자들에겐 유익 되는 일이 될 것입니다. 그래서 우리도 일상에서 거스름 돈이나 물건을 계산하고 남은 잔돈들을 활용해 보려고 합니다. 돈을 잘 사용하면 마음이 흐뭇합니다. 하지만 돈을 잘못 쓰면 허무한 느낌이 들 수 있습니다. 우리 돈의 사용은 의미 있는 삶과 직결됩니다. 집안 어딘 가에 방치된 돈이 있습니다. 우리가 별로 신경 쓰지 않는 동전들입니다. 보통은 거스름돈으로 받은 동전들이 주머니에 한동안 머물러 있습니다. 그러다가 우리가 옷을 바꾸어 입을 때는 집 어딘가에 동전들이 놓이게 됩니다. 서랍장 안, 책상, 세면대, 옷장 위 어딘가에 놓일 수 있습니다. 집 안에서 지나다니다가 동전을 흘끗 쳐다 보지만 별 마음을 두지 않습니다. 언젠가는 써야지 하지만 그대로 방치합니다. 해가 바뀌지만 아직도 쓰임을 받지 못합니다. 동전의 색깔이 짙게 변합니다. 우리는 이렇게 쓰임을 받지 못하는 동전들을 좋은 일에 쓰려고 합니다. 캄보디아에 있는 장애인들에게 휠체어를 선물하려는 데 쓰려고 합니다. 또한 한국에 있는 난치병 어린이들을 위해서 쓰려고 합니다. 누군가에게 기쁨, 소망, 도움을 주는 곳에 동전들이 쓰일 것입니다. 복음과 함께 전해질 것입니다. 동전이라 별 쓸모 없다고 여길 수 있습니다. 하지만 이렇게 귀한 일에 쓰임을 받으면 그 값어치를 톡톡히 할 것입니다. 그래서 우리는 집 안 어딘가에 쌓여 있는 동전들을 모으려 합니다. 매달 첫째 주일 마다 동전을 모을 것입니다. 한 달 동안 어딘가에 쌓일 동전을 매달 첫째 주일에 가져 오시면 우리는 그것을 6개월 간 모아서 위에서 언급한 목적을 위해서 쓰려고 합니다. 한 사람이 모은 동전은 얼마 안될 수 있습니다. 하지만 우리 모두가 함께 모으면 어려운 분들에게 큰 위로가 될 수 있습니다. 매달 첫째 주일 마다 있는 이삭줍기 코인 데이를 기억해 주세요. 이것은 어려운 이웃을 기억하는 것입니다. 하나님은 어려운 이웃을 기억하는 자들을 기억하십니다. 

God commanded the Israelites to leave some grains or fruits behind after harvest so that the poor or the sojourners would glean them for their food. Their gathering of the leftovers were called “gleanings.” “And when you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap your field right up to its edge, nor shall you gather the gleanings after your harvest. You shall leave them for the poor and for the sojourner: I am the LORD your God” (Lev. 23:22). Likewise, if we can meet someone’s needs through our little help, then we are carrying out God’s will, which will benefit the poor. So, we want to utilize the change left over from daily purchase. If we spend money well, we feel gratified. But if we spend it wrongly, we may feel empty. Use of our money is directly related to a meaningful life. There is money negligently left alone somewhere in the house. It is the coins we don’t care about. It is the coins we have received as change. We often keep the change in our pockets for a while. Then, we place it somewhere in the house when we change our clothes. It may be placed one of the places such as drawer, desk, or washstand, or wardrobe. We have no time to care about the change because we often have to change our dress and quickly go out. Even when we come back home from our errands, we completely forget about the coins. While walking around the house, we glance at them without caring about them. Such coins pile up with dust as time rolls by. Unused coins only keep their place. Assuming we will use them someday, we still leave them as they are. A new year dawns, but they are still unused. They look decolored, which shows a passage of time. We want to use such unused coins for a good purpose. We want to spend them for purchasing wheelchairs for the handicapped in Cambodia. Also, we want to spend them for children with incurable disease. Such unused coins will be used to give joy, hope, and help to someone. They will be used along with the gospel of Christ. We may regard coins as almost useless. But, if they are used for such a noble purpose, they are truly worthy. So, we would like to collect coins piled up somewhere in your houses. We will collect them every first Sunday of each month. If you bring the coins piled up somewhere for a month on the first Sunday of each month, we will gather them together for six months and use them for the things mentioned above. The coins one person gather may be little. But if all of us gather them together, we may bring a great comfort to those in need. Please, remember Gleaning Coin Day every first Sunday of each month. Doing so is remembering your neighbors in need. God remembers those who remember their neighbors in need.
