사랑으로 믿음 실천(Practice of Faith through Love)

믿음은 사랑으로 일합니다. 사랑의 수고는 믿음의 열매로 믿음의 진실성을 증거합니다. 믿음이 있노라 하고 일하지 않으면 그 믿음은 죽은 것과 같습니다. 하지만 산 믿음은 살아 있는 몸이 움직이듯 움직입니다. 산 믿음의 확실한 증거는 사랑입니다. 갈라디아서 5:6은 말합니다: “그리스도 예수 안에서는 할례나 무할례가 효력이 없되 사랑으로써 역사하는 믿음 뿐이니라.” 중요한 것은 사랑으로 일하는 믿음입니다. 우리는 이번에 믿음의 작은 실천을 하였습니다. Upstate 지역에 정착하는 난민들에게 그리스도의 사랑을 실천한 것입니다. 작년에 Jeffrey Lee 장로님 내외분을 통해서 World Relief 사역을 알게 되었습니다. 세계 각지에서 미국으로 난민 지위를 인정 받아 영주하는 사람들이 있습니다. 아프리카, 남미, 제3세계 국가, 재난을 겪는 나라에서 American Dream을 가지고 이주한 사람들입니다. 미국 정부를 이들의 정착을 돕습니다. World Relief는 난민을 돕는 비영리 기관입니다. 작년에는 Brandon Baugh라는 분이 우리 교회 주일 예배를 참여하여 World Relief의 사역을 소개하였습니다. 몇 개월이 흐른 후 우리가 신생아 가정과 새롭게 이주한 가정을 도울 수 있다는 소식을 들었습니다. 그래서 교회에 광고를 하고 특별 지정 헌금을 모금했습니다. 작년에 어떤 분이 이천 달러를 난민 구제 사역을 위해 헌금해 주셨습니다. 그중 천불을 이번에 사용하기로 결정했습니다. 2주간 300불 구제 헌금으로 걷혔습니다. 총 천 삼백 불을 신생아가 있는 다섯 가정과 새로 이주한 두 가정을 돕는 일에 사용하였습니다. 다섯 가정에 줄 80불 짜리 gift card를 다섯 개 구입하였습니다. 그리고 새로 이주한 두 가정에는 필요한 부엌, 화장실, 침대, 위생 용품 등을 구입하였습니다. 이 일을 위해서 Kristin Lee 선교사님이 수고해 주셨습니다. 선교사님을 도와서 구입한 물품들을 품목별로 박스에 넣어 포장하였습니다. 그리고 환영과 격려의 말도 적어서 넣었습니다. 포장하면서 참 기뻤습니다. 누군가를 돕고 위로할 수 있어서 감사했습니다. 주님의 사랑을 생각했습니다. 문화와 언어가 다른 곳에 온 이 분들의 마음을 느껴보려 했습니다. 조금이라도 도움이 될 수 있으면 좋겠다고 생각했습니다. 이분들이 하나님의 사랑을 느끼길 기도했습니다. 낯선 곳에서 환영 받기를 원했습니다. 정착하려는 이분들의 노력에 하나님의 도우심이 있기를 소원했습니다. 어려운 분들과 그리스도의 사랑을 나누는 것은 분명 하나님을 기쁘시게 합니다. 또한 작게나마 사랑으로 믿음을 실천하는 것은  하나님을 기쁘시게 합니다. 하나님을 기쁘시게 하면 행복합니다. 앞으로 사랑으로 믿음을 실천하는 다양한 사역들이 많아지길 소원합니다. 사랑 실천을 통한 행복이 우리 모두의 것이 되길 기원합니다. 

Faith works by love. Labor of love is a fruit of faith. It evidences the truthfulness of faith. If one says, “I have faith,” and doesn’t work, his faith is like being dead. But as a living body moves, so does living faith. Sure proof of living faith is love. Gal. 5:6 says,   “For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love.” What matters is faith working by love. We carried out a little practice of faith this time. We practiced an act of love for some refugees settling in the upstate area. Last year, I came to know about World Relief through Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Lee. There are the refugees who have received the approval of their refugee status from the US government and settled here permanently. They have emigrated from Africa, South America, the third world, or countries shaken by disasters to USA with American Dream. The US government help them settle down in America. World Relief is a non-profit organization that helps refugees. Last year, Mr. Brandon Baugh came to our morning worship and made a presentation to tell us about the ministries of World Relief. After several months had passed, we heard that we could help families who are with new-born babies and families who have recently arrived here. So, we made announcements and collected offerings designated for refugees. Last year, one of us donated $2000 for refugee relief fund. We decided to use the half of it this time. We collected additional $300 for two weeks. We have spent $1300 for five families with newly born babies and two recently arrived families. We have bought five eighty-dollar gift cards for the five families. And we have purchased kitchen kit, bathroom kit, bedroom kit, hygiene kit, and the like, for the two families. For this work, Missionary Kristin Lee took the trouble. I helped her box and pack the goods by item. Then, I wrote a letter of welcome and encouragement and put it in those boxes. While packing, I was really happy. I was grateful for helping and comforting others. I thought of the Lord’s love. I tried to feel the hearts of those who have come to a place of different culture and language. I thought it would be good for me to render them even little help. I have prayed that they would feel the love of God. I wished they would be welcomed in an unknown place. I wished that there would be God’s help for their efforts to settle. Sharing Christ’s love with those in need certainly pleases God. Also, practicing faith by little love pleases God. If we please God, then we are happy. I wish that we will be engaged in a variety of ministries of practicing faith by love. May happiness by practicing love be in our possession!
