기본으로 돌아가자(Return to the Basics)

2월 마지막 주일입니다. 곧 3월이 시작됩니다. 꽃가루가 봄 소식을 알리고 있습니다. 추운 겨울 동안 웅크린 몸과 마음의 기지개를 펴고 마음껏 활동하고 픈 욕구가 생기기 시작했습니다. 지난 2년을 코로나 바이러스 팬데믹으로 온 세상은 힘찬 기지개 한 번 못 피고 위축되어 있었습니다. 더우기 지난 몇달 동안 오미크론 변이 바이러스로 전 세계는 또한번의 고통을 감내해야 했습니다. 다행히 증상이 심각하지 않고 오래 지속되지 않았습니다. 이제는 모두들 팬데믹에 대한 두려움도 많이 극복하며 잘 적응하여 살고 있습니다. 그래서 사람들의 왕래도 전보다 자유로워졌습니다. 매우 고무적인 현상입니다. 우리 은혜 교회도 지난 2년을 잘 지날 올 수 있었습니다. 처음 코로나 팬데믹이 터지고 교회는 큰 타격을 받았습니다. 우리 학생들이 모두 한국으로 돌아가야 했습니다. 대면 예배에서 온라인 예배로 전환하였습니다. 다행스럽게도 매주 10명 정도가 온라인 예배를 위하여 함께 모여 예배를 드리고 예배 실황을 온라인으로 보내드렸습니다. 주중 모임, 기도 모임, 교회 행사는 모두 멈추었습니다. 모일 수 없으니 모일 수 있는 것이 축복인 것을 실감하였습니다. 그렇게 1년이 지나고 학생들이 몇 명씩 돌아왔습니다. 예배 인원이 10명에서 15명, 그리고 20명 정도로 늘어났습니다. 현재는 30명 정도가 매 주일 모여 예배하고 있습니다. 이제는 전처럼 모임을 재개할 때가 된 것 같습니다. 그래서 무엇부터 다시 시작할까 기도 중에 있었습니다. 이미 새벽 기도와 금요 기도 모임은 시작하였습니다. 팬데믹 동안 유익했던 것은 교회가 성경 전체를 읽은 것입니다. 저는 성경을 정리하여 카톡으로 보내드렸습니다. 매우 유익한 시간이었습니다. 이제는 성경 묵상으로 좀더 심화하여 성경을 읽고 있습니다. 저는 우리 교회가 모든 모임을 다시 시작해야 될 때가 되었다고 생각합니다. 무엇에 집중해야 할까 기도하며 생각했습니다. 제가 얻은 답은 기본으로 돌아가는 것입니다. 팬데믹이든 아니든 우리는 늘 기본에 충실해야 합니다. 그 기본은 말씀, 기도, 사랑입니다. 다시 모이게 되면 기도와 말씀에 충실하며 사랑을 실천하고 싶습니다. 모임을 통하여 성경을 읽고 듣고 묵상하고 적용하는 것에 집중하고자 합니다. 더불어 기도에 힘쓰고자 합니다. 형식적이고 피상적인 기도는 피하고 싶습니다. 하나님과 진정한 교통이 있는 기도로 영적 부흥을 맛보고 싶습니다. 그래서 우리 은혜 교회가 말씀과 기도의 기초 위에 굳게 서기를 간절히 소원하며 기도하고 있습니다. 우리 모두가 말씀과 기도의 능력으로 사랑 실천에서 성장하길 소원합니다. 말씀을 듣고 기도하는 모임에 참여하며 사랑 실천에 힘써 주시길 소원합니다. 주님이 원하시는 영적 부흥이 은혜 교회에 임하길 우리 함께 기도하길 기원합니다. 

Today is the last Lord’s Day of February. It will March soon. Pollens herald the news of spring. We feel an urge to stretch our body and heart crouched during the cold winter, and to move as freely as possible. For the last two years, the whole world has been flinched from the coronavirus pandemic without stretching itself out freely. For the last few months, it has had to bear the brunt of the Omicron variant. Fortunately, its symptoms were not so serious, and didn’t last long. Now, all of us have overcome the fear of the pandemic and gotten used to it. So, people come and go freely than before. It is quite encouraging. Our Grace Church has been undergoing the pandemic well. When it broke out, the pandemic inflicted a big blow on our church. All of our students had to return to Korea. We switched our in-person service into online service. Fortunately, about ten of us were able to gather together every Lord’s Day to worship and livestream our service for those who worshiped at home. Weekly meetings, prayer meetings, and church activities stopped. We were unable to gather; so we really felt being able to gather together was a blessing. About a year passed in this way. A few students came back one after another. The church attendance increased from 10 to 15, and from 15 to 20. Currently, about 30 attend our Lord’s Day service. Now, it seems to resume our meetings as before. While praying, so, I have been thinking about what to resume first. We have already resumed early morning prayer meeting and Friday night prayer meeting. During the pandemic, our church were able to read through the Bible. I summarized the Bible and sent it daily through KakaoTalk. It was very profitable. Now, we read the Bible in a deeper way by meditating on it. I do believe that it is time for our church to resume all our meetings. I have been praying and thinking on what to concentrate ourselves on. The answer I have got is to return to the basics.  Whether in the pandemic or out of the pandemic, we must be always faithful to the basics, which are word, prayer, and love. When we get together, I want all of us to be faithful to word and prayer and practice love. Through our meetings, we plan to concentrate on reading, hearing, and applying the word of God. Also, we strive to pray. I wish all of us to avoid ritualistic and superficial prayer. I want all of us to experience spiritual revival through real prayer communication with God. I wish all of us to grow in practicing love by the power of word and prayer. I wish all of us to participate in the meetings in which you hear and pray in the word of God. May all of us pray that spiritual revival break out upon our Grace Church as the Lord is willing!
