절망을 치유하는 사랑(Love Heals Despair)

삶은 하나님의 선물입니다. 우리는 삶을 가꾸고 사랑하며 살아가야 합니다. 우리가 사는 것은 하나님의 뜻입니다. 하지만 때론 삶이 너무 어렵고 아파서 포기하기 하고 싶은 유혹은 받기도 합니다. 특히 믿는 자들은 높은 도덕적 기준을 따라 살지 못함에 대한 자책감내지는 죄책감에 시달리기도 합니다. 의롭고 거룩한 삶을 살고자 노력하지만 마음에 깊이 뿌리 내린 죄와 상처로 인해 절망합니다. 남들에게 말 못하는 아픔과 상처도 영혼을 절망의 늪에 빠지게 합니다. 삶 자체를 고통으로 여기며 자살을 시도하는 이들도 있습니다. 사탄의 초강력 무기는 절망감을 마음에 심어주는 것입니다. 사람들은 절망에 빠지면 생의 의지를 상실하고 죽고 싶어합니다. 절망은 실로 죽음에 이르는 병입니다. 우리는 이러한 영혼의 병을 방치해서는 안됩니다. 우리는 영적으로 깨어 있어서 이러한 사탄의 계책을 간파하고 대비해야 합니다. 사탄은 우리의 마음에 우리 자신이 항상 형편없고 쓸모 없는 인간이라는 부정적 생각을 심어주어 부정적인 감정에 짓눌리게 합니다. 우울증, 자책감, 죄책감, 절망감이란 영혼의 감옥에 우리를 가두려 합니다. 어떻게 치유 받을 수 있을까요? 무엇보다도 복음이 제시하는 진리로 자신에 대한 생각을 바꾸어야 합니다. 하나님은 그리스도 안에서 우리를 사랑 받는 자, 빛의 자녀, 의로운 자로 인정해 주십니다. 또한 우리를 그의 자녀로 삼으시고 변치 않은 사랑으로 보살펴 주십니다. 우리를 거룩한 나라, 그의 소유된 백성으로 인정해 주십니다. 우리가 부족하여 죄에 걸려 넘어져도 여전히 우리를 용서하시고 사랑으로 회복시켜 주십니다. 하나님은 우리를 정죄하지 않으십니다. 우리를 기다려 주시고 믿어 주시는 좋으신 아버지입니다. 정죄는 사탄이 쓰는 무기입니다. “너는 쓸모 없는 죄인이야. 지옥이 너에게 딱 맞는 곳이야” 등등으로 정죄하며 절망의 구렁에 밀어 넣으려 합니다. 이러한 고소에 마음의 귀를 기우려서는 안됩니다. 우리는 주님의 십자가 사랑으로 이것을 대적해야 합니다. 절망을 치유하는 것은 그리스도의 영원한 사랑 밖에는 없습니다. 우리는 이 진리를 믿고 스스로의 정죄에서 벗어나야 합니다. 주님의 사랑으로 영혼을 건강하게 가꾸어야 합니다. 다음과 같은 진리의 말씀으로 짓눌린 영혼을 자유하게 해야 합니다: “누가 정죄하리요 죽으실 뿐 아니라 다시 살아나신 이는 그리스도 예수시니 그는 하나님 우편에 계신 자요 우리를 위하여 간구하시는 자시니라 누가 우리를 그리스도의 사랑에서 끊으리요…그러나 이 모든 일에 우리를 사랑하시는 이로 말미암아 우리가 넉넉히 이기느니라…다른 아무 피조물이라도 우리를 우리 주 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 하나님의 사랑에서 끊을 수 없으리라”(롬 8:34-39). 그리스도 안에서 사랑으로 치유된 영혼은 행복합니다.

Life is a gift from God. We are to cultivate it, love it, and live it. It is God's will that we live. But sometimes life is so difficult and painful that we are tempted to give up. Believers, in particular, are often plagued by nagging guilt for not living up to high moral standards. We strive to live a righteous and holy life, but we despair because of deeply ingrained sin and hurt in our hearts. The pain and hurt that they can't tell others about also drives their souls to despair. Some even attempt suicide because they see life itself as a torment. Satan's powerful weapon is to instill a sense of hopelessness in the mind. When people are in despair, they lose the will to live and want to die. Despair is indeed a disease that leads to death. We must not neglect this disease of the soul. We must be spiritually alert to recognize and prepare for these schemes of Satan. Satan plants negative thoughts in our minds that we are always lousy and worthless, causing us to be weighed down by negative emotions. He seeks to imprison us in a soul prison of depression, self-blame, guilt, and despair. How can we be healed? Above all, we must change the way we think about ourselves with the truths of the gospel. In Christ, God recognizes us as beloved, children of light, and righteous; he makes us His children and cares for us with unfailing love. He regards us as a holy nation, his peculiar people. When we fall short and stumble into sin, He still forgives and restores us in love. God does not condemn us. He is a good Father who waits for us and believes in us. Condemnation is a weapon used by Satan. He tries to push us into a pit of despair with condemnation, saying things like, "You're a worthless sinner, and hell is just the place for you." We must not listen to these accusations. We must counter this with the love of the cross of the Lord. It is nothing but the eternal love of Christ that heals despair. We must believe this truth and free ourselves from self-condemnation. We must nourish our souls with the love of the Lord. We must set our crushed souls free with words of truth like these: "Who shall condemn, but Christ Jesus, who died, and was raised again; who is at the right hand of God, and maketh intercession for us; who shall separate us from the love of Christ...In all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us...neither shall any other creature be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 8:34-39). Happy is the soul that is healed by love in Christ.
