코로나 바이러스의 타격(A Blow of the Coronavirus)

2022년이 시작된 후 세 번째 주일을 맞이합니다. 연초부터 오미크론 변이 바이러스 급증으로 큰 영향을 받고 있습니다. 우리 중 여러분이 코로나 바이러스에 감염되어 고생을 하고 있습니다. 예배에도 참석하지 못하셨습니다. 주일 예배 출석 인원이 많이 줄었습니다. 제 아들 요엘이도 코로나 바이러스에 감염되었습니다. 개학 후에 많은 학생들이 코로나에 감염되었습니다. 감염자가 수가 너무 많이 증가하면 온라인 수업으로 전환한다고 알려주었습니다. 저와 제 아내는 약간의 피로감 말고는 특별한 증상은 없습니다. 요엘이는 코로나가 끝나가고 있습니다. 저와 제 아내는 화요일에 코로나 검사를 받습니다. 사정이 이렇다 보니 이번 주일 대면 예배로 모일 수가 없습니다. 또한 동남부 전역에 Ice storm이 온다고 해서 예배로 모일 수 없습니다. 코로나 대유행에도 불구하고 지난 2년 동안 대면 예배를 멈춘 적이 없습니다. 그런데 이번 주일은 안타깝게도 모일 수가 없어 슬픔이 있습니다. 우리도 오미크론 급증에서 자유롭지 못합니다. 전에는 실감하지 못했는데 자유롭게 만날 수 없다는 것이 얼마나 힘든 것인지를 깨닫습니다. 목회 칼럼을 쓰는 지금 이 시간에는 눈이나 얼음 폭풍이 시작되지 않았습니다. 하지만 곧 시작될 것이며 이 지역은 눈과 얼음으로 덮일 것입니다. 길은 얼음으로 덮여 운전을 할 수 없을 것입니다. 많은 지역에 전기가 끊기고 인터넷도 끊길 것으로 예상되고 있습니다. 어쩌면 온라인 예배도 드릴 수 없을지도 모릅니다. 하지만 전기가 끊기지 않으면 온라인 예배를 드릴 수 있을 것입니다. 이렇듯 2022년 초반에 여러 어려움을 겪고 있습니다. 코로나 바이러스의 직격탄을 맞은 듯 합니다. 작년에도 우리 중 여러 분들이 코로나 감염으로 고생을 하였습니다. 올해는 전염성이 강한 오미크론 변이 바이러스로 인해 전 세계가 몸살을 앓고 있습니다. 이미 우리 가운데 여러분이 코로나 증상을 겪는 동안에 많은 고통이 겪었습니다. 다행스러운 것은 모두 회복되어 무사하다는 것입니다. 하지만 한동안 오미크론 감염자가 계속 증가할 것입니다. 이로 인한 타격이 사회 전반에 지속될 것입니다. 우리 교회도 이것에서 자유롭지는 않을 것입니다. 그래서 조심하고 또 조심하는 수 밖에는 없습니다. 이번 주는 대면 예배를 취소할 수 밖에 없습니다. 아쉬움이 큽니다. 하지만 다음 주일에는 대면 예배를 재개할 수 있기를 소원합니다. 교우들이 보고 싶습니다. 다음 주일에는 꼭 뵙고 싶습니다. 운전 조심하세요. 그리고 코로나도 조심하세요. 모두 주님 안에서 건강하시길 기원합니다. 

Since we started year 2022, we have been coming to the third Lord’s Lord. From the beginning of this year, we have been greatly impacted by the Omicron variant surge. Several of us have been suffering from the coronavirus infections. They were unable to come to worship. The number of attendance in worship has been much dwindled. My son Joel was infected with the coronavirus. Since the school started, there have been a great number of students infected with the virus. It is told they will switch to e-learning if the situation is out of control. My wife and I have no specific symptoms except tiredness. Joel is getting out of the coronavirus. My wife and I are scheduled to take the Covid-19 test on Tuesday. Because we are in such a situation, we can’t hold in-person worship on this Lord’s Day. Also, we won’t be able to gather together for worship because ice storm is forecast throughout the southeast. Despite the coronavirus pandemic, we have not shut down our church on Sunday. But sadly we can’t meet for worship this Sunday. We are not free from the Omicron surge. I have come to realize how hard it is not to meet together freely, which I didn’t experience before. As I am writing this pastoral column, I don’t see any snow or ice-rain falling yet. But it will start soon. The upstate will be covered with snow and ice. We won’t be able to drive due to ice-covered road condition. Power outages and internet outages are expected in many regions. Probably, we may not be able to worship even through livestreaming. But, if we have power, we will be able to have online worship. In this manner, we have some difficulties at the beginning of this year. I feel like being hit directly by the coronavirus. Last year, several of us suffered from the coronavirus infections. This year, the whole world is hurting because of the highly contagious Omicron variant. Several of us suffered much from the symptoms of the virus. Fortunately, all of them are well, recovered from them. But for the time being, the Omicron infections will continue to rise. Our society will continue to bear its overall blow. Our church won’t be free from it, either. So, we must take every caution, which is all we can do. This week, we have no choice but to cancel in-person worship. I feel so sad. But, I hope we will be able to resume our in-person worship. I greatly miss all of you. I wish to see you all on the next Lord’s Day. Be careful of driving. Also, be careful of the coronavirus. I pray all of us stay healthy in the Lord.
